Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 1078

“No, sir, never again. We’ll do whatever you say, RedFox,” his men blurted out, voices shaky.

Fear was thick in the air. No one wanted to be the next body on the ground. Staring at the corpse, though, not a single one of them felt an ounce of pity. He’d brought it on himself.

There were three leaders in their group. The other two loved women and liked to pass them along when they got bored. RedFox wasn’t like that at all. He never touched women, and he made it clear he couldn’t stand the way the others acted. Any time someone made a crude joke around him, all they got was a cold glare that could freeze your blood.

He was a killer, no doubt about that, but when it came to women, there was a strange respect there. Honestly, it was kind of weird.

The guy on the floor just had terrible luck today. He pushed RedFox’s buttons and paid the price.

Camila had no idea about any of this. The gunshot and the blood sent her mind spinning, a sharp pain stabbing through her head until her face turned pale.

RedFox blew the smoke away from his gun, his gaze settling on Camila.

She was terrified. She didn’t want to die.

A rush of desperation took over and before she could stop herself, she shouted, “Don’t kill me. I can fix your leg.”

RedFox stopped short, caught off guard. He hadn’t expected her to try something like that to save herself.

Camila wasn’t just making things up. Since waking up here, she’d been searching for any possible escape. There was no way she could run while surrounded by armed men. Fighting back would only get her killed faster.

But she’d noticed his limp. This man was the leader. His leg was her only shot.

As a doctor, she could tell right away that his injury was real.

She didn’t know if this would actually buy her some time. It was a gamble, but she had to take it.

RedFox snapped out of his surprise, a harsh smirk tugging at his mouth. “Trying to stall for time? Don’t bother. I’ve already been paid. Your life belongs to me.”

Behind her back, her hands were clenched tight, palms slick with sweat. Only she knew how scared she really was. If she couldn’t convince him, she was out of options.

Still, her face showed none of that fear. Her voice was so certain, so sincere, that RedFox started to waver.

He weighed his options. In the end, it didn’t take him long to choose.

He stared at Camila, his eyes dark and dangerous. “You better be as good as you say. If I find out you’re lying, I’ll make sure you regret it.”

“Of course,” Camila replied, cool and calm.

RedFox put away his gun and turned to his men, clearly telling them to check out her story. As for Camila, he wasn’t going to kill her just yet.

He ordered them to untie her and lock her in a small room nearby. If she really could heal his leg, he was willing to give her a chance.
