When Camila’s memories started coming back, she also realized something was off with her body. Still, no matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t remember what she’d done while her mind was fuzzy. Had she really called him that? Was Dennis being honest with her?
He caught her doubtful look and just smiled, gentle and a little teasing. “It’s true. When you forgot about me, you thought we were married, and you kept calling me that. So... just once, okay? Please?”
Camila wanted to refuse. Honestly, saying something like that right now felt way too embarrassing. She opened her mouth to say no, but then she saw the look in his eyes. He looked at her with so much hope, almost as if hearing that word was the only thing that could calm him down. She’d never seen him like this before.
After a couple seconds, she caved. “Husband...”
The word came out smoother than she expected, no stuttering, just soft and natural, like she’d said it a million times. Her voice was gentle and sweet, but just saying those two syllables made her cheeks burn. For Dennis, though, it was enough. He leaned in, covering her face in gentle kisses, each one full of warmth and affection.
Camila thought he was about to tease her again, but Dennis paused. His voice, low and soothing, brushed against her ear. “Camila, once you’re feeling better, let’s set a date for our wedding, okay?”
She blinked up at him, surprised, a shy smile tugging at her lips. “Dennis, are you... proposing?”
He shook his head lightly. “Not yet. I just want to know what you think. When I really propose, it’ll be a proper event. You deserve the best, Camila. Everything good in this world.”
The next morning, Camila woke up having forgotten everything that happened the night before. Dennis saw it right away, just from the way she looked at him. He felt a little sad, but he didn’t let it show. No matter what, she was still Camila. One day, her memories would come back completely.
Camila, on the other hand, hadn’t been through anything that intense in ages. After last night, her whole body felt like it didn’t belong to her anymore. She vaguely remembered they only went at it twice, but she felt like she’d been hit by a truck. Was she always this weak?
She grimaced, struggling to sit up, using up what little energy she had left just for that. Dennis noticed right away and guilt flickered across his face. Last night, he’d given in to his own selfishness and pushed her too hard. He wrapped her up in his arms, holding her gently. “Camila, do you want to rest a bit longer? We can go out after you feel better.”
