She was being so sweet. There was no way Dennis could say no. He reached over and gently patted Lillian’s head, his voice warm and doting. “Of course. We’ll call you twice a day, once in the morning and once before bed.”
“Yay! It’s a deal!” Lillian instantly brightened, her mood turning sunny again.
With that settled, Dennis stayed a few more days to wrap up things at The Williams Group and wait for the new research team to come together. When everything was in order, he finally took Camila with him and left the country.
The long flight left Camila feeling pretty out of it. By the time they landed, she was lightheaded, her energy all drained. Dennis noticed right away. He gently steadied her, concern written all over his face. “Camila, are you feeling sick?”
She shook her head. “I think it’s just jet lag. It’s been ages since I was on a flight this long. I’m just tired.”
“Let’s get you home so you can rest.”
Their car was already waiting outside the airport. Dennis helped her inside and took her straight to his estate. After a good nap, Camila started to feel like herself again. She changed into some comfy loungewear and stepped out of the bedroom, her eyes wandering around the unfamiliar house.
He wasn’t just saying it to make her feel better. From what his team had found, Professor Keri was probably somewhere in Kaston. The professor used to be from Eldoria, but after he got in trouble, he disappeared. Based on his research and background, Dennis figured he was hiding here. Whether Keri had help or was working alone was still a mystery, but that could wait.
None of this stopped Dennis from wanting Camila to have a good time.
Even though Camila couldn’t remember much about the past, just knowing this was her first trip abroad with Dennis made her strangely happy. She nodded, a smile tugging at her lips. “Okay, I’ll check some places out later.”
