Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 1049

Dr. Williams could already tell what Dennis was planning. He warned him, “You know it takes a really solid reason for the institute to launch a new project.”

Dennis nodded, his voice full of confidence. “Trust me, I’ve uncovered something big. It should be more than enough.”

Dr. Williams’s interest was obvious. “What did you find?”

Dennis took a breath. “I just got the news today. Some of that drug has already made its way into towns near the southwest border. There are people who’ve been affected. This isn’t just about Camila anymore. Someone’s been pushing it through the black market for a while. If we don’t take action soon, this could turn into a serious mess.”

It didn’t matter what the other side wanted. They couldn’t just sit around and do nothing anymore.

Dr. Williams’s face turned even more serious. “They moved this fast?”

He had thought this was still just Professor Keri’s experiment. Now it was clear. The people behind this had way more control over the drug than anyone expected.

Dennis nodded again. “Think about it. For this stuff to slip through all those checks and wind up in Harrisburg, used on Camila, it has to be everywhere already. What I’ve heard points to the Golden Triangle as the main source. This is something the authorities can’t ignore. It’s not just about Camila. There are other people at risk. It’s always better to prepare for the worst than to wait until everything blows up.”

Dr. Williams understood completely. He said, “Alright, I’ll leave this to you. And for now, let’s keep this from the rest of the family.” Camila’s parents were just regular people. They’d never even heard of something like this. If they found out, it would only make them more worried.

This time, out of respect for his position, they didn’t show up at his office. They contacted him privately. The message was clear. “We’ve had a report that The Smith Family might be tied to the recent illegal drug business. Mr. Smith, please come with us and help with the investigation.”

They didn’t have any hard evidence, so it was just a routine interview. Jordan didn’t put up a fight. He really didn’t know anything and had nothing to hide.

After two hours at the station, the questioning was finally over. The police decided he had nothing to do with the drugs. It was all Lucas Smith acting on his own, so they let Jordan go.

As Jordan stepped out of the station, Nathan Gates was already there waiting. “Boss.”
