Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 1030

The Jones Group was basically done for. Bankruptcy was just a matter of time. Maybe others didn’t see the writing on the wall, but Jordan did. All their money was locked up in a few big projects. The longer they dragged things out, the worse it would get. Even the Smith Group couldn’t bail them out now.

And as for his brother Lucas Smith, things were just as bad.

Nathan Gates came over to give him the latest update, and he sounded completely defeated. “There’s no way to keep Lucas’s mess under wraps this time. The backlash online is huge. Pretty much everyone knows what he did. Looks like someone tipped off the authorities, too. The legal process is moving fast. Our lawyers tried to get him out on bail, but there’s nothing they can do.”

To put it plainly, Lucas Smith was out of options. There was no way he was getting out of this clean.

After hearing all that, Jordan closed his eyes for a moment, hiding the storm brewing inside him. Dennis Williams’s moves were brutal and fast. Jordan hadn’t seen it coming.

Still, even with the Smith Group stock in free fall, they were still Harrisburg’s top family. Their foundation was solid, and Jordan had managed everything carefully over the years. The Smiths weren’t easily shaken.

Jordan was a sharp businessman. He knew how to make tough choices. The first thing he did when he got back was cut off all business with the Jones Group. That one decision kept the Smith Group from getting dragged down with them and saved them a lot of money. The shareholders respected him for it.

But the Jones family didn’t see it that way.

That night, Jordan came home to find his mom and a few of the Jones family elders waiting for him. The mood in the living room was tense.

His grandparents’ faces darkened as soon as they saw him.

“Grandpa, Grandma, what brings you here? You didn’t even call ahead. Are you staying for dinner?” Jordan tried to act casual, pretending he had no idea why they were there.

Barbara Jones, eyes swollen from crying, turned to her son. “What about your brother? Are you just going to give up on him? Lucas is a Smith too. You have to save him!”

Hearing her mention his useless brother, Jordan’s patience started to wear thin. “There’s nothing I can do for him either. You all know that better than I do. There’s no way out. Because of him, the Smith name is in the mud, our stock crashed, and we lost a fortune. I haven’t even started making him answer for that. All we can do now is find the best lawyer and hope to get his sentence reduced.”

Barbara nearly lost it. Her son’s life was basically ruined.

“How did it all end up like this?” she sobbed, collapsing onto the sofa. Suddenly, she started yelling, completely losing it. “This is all Camila Davis’s fault! That woman is nothing but bad luck. Ever since she showed up, our family’s been falling apart. She’s a curse. You still care about her, even though she rejected you, and now Lucas has paid the price. I’m telling you, Jordan, I don’t ever want to see her in this house again!”

She screamed, totally out of control, nothing like the elegant Mrs. Smith she used to be. Nathan Gates couldn’t help but roll his eyes at her rant. He didn’t even bother reminding her that Camila Davis didn’t care about the Smiths at all. If they hadn’t dragged her into this mess, she wouldn’t have even come back to Harrisburg. In the end, everything that happened to both families was Barbara’s own fault. Not only did she refuse to take responsibility, she actually blamed someone else.
