Nancy took a deep breath and patted Sarah's shoulder, saying, "I'm afraid I can't treat you to lunch today. Maybe tonight or tomorrow."
"It's okay."
Sarah didn't necessarily want to take advantage of Nancy. She just wanted to spend time with her.
"Go ahead. You probably have to go to the professor's place this afternoon. We won't eat together tonight."
Nancy waved goodbye to Sarah and her face immediately turned serious. She walked towards the Ferrari with determination.
As she approached, a woman opened the car door from inside and smiled warmly, "Nan, get in. Let's have a talk."
Nancy glanced at her indifferently and stood at the door. "Mom, just say it here."
The woman was Nancy's biological mother, Lily. In order to continue being Mrs. Mirren and enjoy the wealthy life of the Mirren Family, she had to put on a fake smile and face the daughter she once despised.
Lily awkwardly laughed and looked around. She put on a gentle smile and said, "Nan, this is the school gate, and there are a lot of students coming and going. You wouldn't want them to overhear our conversation, right?"
Indeed, there were countless people there, especially since it was time for school to let out.
Nancy bit her lip forcefully. Although reluctant, she bent down and got into the car.
Lily was extremely happy and said to the driver, "Let's go to Jordelton Restaurant. I want to take my daughter to eat something delicious."
Nancy immediately withdrew her hand and turned to glare at Lily. "My dad didn't die! He just disappeared! And why are you so happy? Lily, even though you've remarried now, you were once with my dad. Don't you think you're belittling your own past and disrespecting my dad?"
Her eyes welled up with visible anger as if it was about to burst out. Lily's heart throbbed with fear.
She didn't expect Nancy to have such a strong reaction. It was not the time to reason with her, and she had to calm Nancy down first.
"Alright, alright."
Lily immediately bit her lip. "I said it wrong, but Nan, what I said is true. Whether your father disappeared or died, you're on your own now, and you have to live with your family. Come to live with me and let me make it up to you, okay?"
