Chapter 782 Sophisticated calculation
August’s tall figure slowly reached her widened eyes. She was dazed at first, then quickly regained her senses. She spread a smile on her face and walked over to August.
For an unknown reason, Lucia felt as if she was caught by August when she was committing a big fault.
August's action was smooth and natural when he took Lucia into his arms. His deep eyes slowly cast on Edmund's smiling face, "Thank you, Mr. Shea, for taking care of my wife during your busy schedule."
"You're welcome, Mr. Adams. Lucia and I are just friends. I hope that you don't sweat it and don't get Lucia wronged." Edmund's voice was consistently gentle.
Lucia's eyebrows were slightly locked when she heard this. She secretly thought to herself that Edmund's remarks sounded strange, with sophisticated calculation.
There was nothing wrong between them. However, what Edmund said made them shady. It was like the more one explained, the more one wanted to hide it.
August’s detached voice slowly sounded, "Mr. Shea could rest assured. We don't need extra explanations. I believe in her."
The light in Edmund's eyes solidified, but they recovered soon before others could see it clearly.
He looked obviously relaxed when August said this, and the smile on his face didn't look like a fake smile, "I was relieved to hear Mr. Adams say this, and I was worried that it would bring Lucia unnecessary trouble."
As he spoke, his eyes turned to Lucia, and his voice was apologetic, "Lucia, since Mr. Adams also attended the party, you should have told me in advance. You didn't have to do it for my sake."
These words hinted that Lucia deliberately lied to August for him.
The next moment, Lucia felt August’s sharply strengthened grip on her waist. She cleared her throat, held August's fingertips tightly with that of hers, and pulled out an apologetic smile at August.
"August, I have something to tell you. Let’s take a walk outside.''
August responded with a cold voice. He clenched Lucia's waist and nearly pulled her off the ground to turn around with her. Although she felt a little uncomfortable, she still had no intention of resisting.
"Lucia ..." Edmund immediately stepped forward and grabbed her arm.
Lucia's eyes darkened sharply and gave off a chilly coldness.
Edmund took in such eyes and couldn't help giving rise to a burst of exasperation.
Edmund managed to suppress his emotions and explained softly, "I hope you can explain it clearly to Mr. Adams for me. I don't want the two of you to be estranged because of me."
"No, Mr. Shea. You can rest assured." As saying, Lucia got rid of Edmund's hand.
After Lucia and August walked all the way down the red carpet to the flower room, August immediately withdrew his hand around August's waist. The next second, Lucia's cool hand reached into August's palm.
Lucia cast her uneasy eyes at August and asked softly, "Why are you here?"
"Mr. Halms attends this party." He gently grabbed her fingertips and responded indifferently.
It turned out that August also came here for the customs documents. She thought he really didn't care about the delay of this document.
"If I had known you were coming, I wouldn't have gone to so much trouble." In a low and gentle voice, she seemed to be muttering to herself as well as explaining to August.
"Since you know you have gone to so much trouble, go back to rest early. Burton's car is outside"
The car started slowly. Heavy alcohol filled the inside of the car, which was so quiet that they could even hear shallow breathing. The low and depressed air pressure gradually spread to them all, and it stayed with them even after Maybach stopped at the entrance of the residence.
August went straight out of the car and strode into the villa. When Lucia arrived, August had left the living room and only Timothy and Janet with surprised faces were there.
The two kids knew that Lucia accompanied Edmund to the party. After seeing that August and Lucia walked into the villa respectively, Timothy knew that things might have been revealed.
He winked at Janet secretly. Janet immediately ran to Lucia, crying in her cute tone, "Mom, my brother frightened me today that there was an old woman in the bathroom, and I'm scared ..."
Timothy couldn't help but quietly gave Janet a glare when he heard it. He wanted to mock Janet for being a little stupid but endured it because Janet was attempting to coax their mother into staying with her.
Lucia's dull eyes fell on Janet.
When Lucia saw the little baby's wronged face, she finally spread a little smile on her face. She squatted down to squeeze Janet’s cool little nose and whispered, "Since when did you believe these things?"
Janet rushed forward and hugged Lucia's thigh, clinging herself intimately to Lucia and displaying her spoiled nature, "Anyway, I'm just scared. I want mom to help me bathe."
"Janet..." Lucia was tired, but there was no way to say no to Janet. Lucia's face showed that she was caught in the middle.
After a long while, a little smile finally appeared on Lucia's face. She gave Timothy a slightly helpless look. Timothy immediately showed a guilty expression, and said weakly, "Mom, just by the rules of Janet this time. I confess I was wrong."
Hearing this, Lucia held Janet in her arms and slowly went upstairs. When she reached the top of the stairs, she subconsciously looked at the study at the end of the corridor, and her eyes were a little distressed.
She wondered what August was angry for. There seemed to be some estrangement between them, and no one wanted to take the lead in breaking the barrier.
Hearing the sound of the door closing upstairs, Timothy's eyes flashed a sly light. He quickly went to the kitchen to heat a glass of milk, and then brought it into the study.
