Chapter 697 The Mastermind Behind the Plot

Chapter 697 The Mastermind Behind the Plot

Rewards

Lucia got up wearily the next morning, blaming August in her heart for making her so tried when she still had to work for

the show.

The account of the program had announced Yoyo's withdrawal. And it didn't went with troubles as people on the side of

Yanny and Lucia largely outnumbered Yoyo's fans. Yoyo finally left the resort with her luggage, feeling totally deflated

and glaring resentfully at Lucia, who acted so complacently at the moment. The show afterwards went with less

conflicts and catching points when Yoyo had left, and just continued peacefully until it finally ended.

As soon as their Maybach drove into the Adams' house, Lucia dashed into the living room and sank into the sofa wearily,

calling Elijah up. The moment the call got through, Elijah's voice came before Lucia could say anything, "The live stream

is a hit! The number of Timothy and Janet's fans has rocketed, reaching ten million now! That's awesome!"

Yet Lucia only wanted to roll her eyes, if she still had enough strength to do that. She answered languorously, "But I'm

just calling to inform you that Timothy and Janet won't take part in any show from now on."

After a short silence, Elijah began roaring, "Come on! How can you change your mind so drastically when the money is

flooding towards us?"

"Because it's a ruddy toil!" Lucia exclaimed.

"Please, Lucia! They are getting up the Christmas film of this year -- Christmas Affair 4 and will start filming in two

months. I've won two wonderful roles for Timothy and Janet. Just think, it's produced by the director of international

fame!"

"No..." Lucia was rejecting with a wave of her hand and suddenly paused as she suddenly realized what Elijah was talking

about. She then almost jumped up from the sofa, "What? Is it Leo Wensley you mean?" Leo Wensley was the director she

had always been admiring. She even learnt a lot from his works when she was working as an animation director.

Getting Elijah's confirmation, Lucia was torn between the facts that it was a precious opportunity to work with a

well-known director and that the job itself was a sort of torment, especially when Leo Wensley was famous for his

strictness and high standards, which had already got actors and actresses to complain. "May I have some more time to think about it?" Lucia's tone went much softer now.

With a secret breath of relief, Elijah pretended to be anxious, "You don't have much time to think about it! Places in the

film are so hot that the opportunity can't wait!"

"Then it's just not meant for me if someone else takes it away." she responded casually.

As their conversation went on, August's phone rang. He picked up the phone and went to the balcony to answer it so that

Lucia wouldn't be disturbed. Yet Elijah was so talkative that they hadn't finished the chatting even when August went

back to the living room with a grim look.

Conscious of August's unusual mood, Lucia hastened to end the conversation, "August wants to talk to me. I'll call you

back later, Elijah."

"What could be more important than the film..." Elijah then suddenly broke off and went on with a softer and even

ingratiating voice, "Oh you mean Mr. Adams? His business of course comes first! But don't forget to think over my

suggestion!"

Lucia rang off and approached August, "What's the matter? You don't look well."

"It's about the press briefing." responded August.

Lucia frowned as she remembered a journalist took the liberty of publishing the identity of Timothy and Janet before their wedding, which almost exposed the kids to the sensation. Lucia caught the journalist and passed him to Burton, and August must have got the result of the investigation from Burton just now. Lucia couldn't wait to demand as she

grasped August's arm, "Did the journalist let out anything? Or Burton has dug out any clue?" "We've found out the mastermind behind it..." August broke off after casting a look at her.

With a mixture of eagerness for the answer and the fear for something ominous, Lucia appeared as grim as August. "Let

me know who he or she is." bellowed she. She knew the answer must lie in someone with ties to her, judging from

August's hesitation, which was completely different from his usual manner. He was just afraid it would be too harsh a

fact for Lucia to accept. Lucia thus determined it must be someone she knew.

"Paul Thomas." August's eyes dropped at the floor as he went on after a pause. "Burton found the remittance from

Paul's friend to the journalist."

Lucia stared at August incredulously. It was the last thing in the world for her to believe that Paul, a gentle and

considerate man who had looked after her and her kids for so long, could have harmed them deliberately.

"May it be a mistake? Perhaps it's only because that friend of his happened to loathe me?" Lucia muttered. "There is still

Paula between us. I don't think Paul would do that, as it will make it embarrassing for Paula."

Seeing Lucia being too stubborn to accept the truth, August wore a scowl on his face and passed her the evidence Burton

had just faxed over two pieces of paper full of remittance records, one from Paul and the other, his friend. There were

too many apparent marks of manipulation, which indicated they had taken turns to remit various amounts to each other

so as to cover up the true purpose.

Holding the paper, Lucia's hand quivered. She then screwed the paper into a ball and clutched it in her hand as her eyes smoldered with anger.

"Where are you going?" August stopped Lucia when she was dashing towards the door.

Lucia pushed him away in rage, shouting, "I shall go asking him why he did that! Why he could have the heart to do that

when he knows I value Timothy and Janet so much!"

"People change, Lucia. You've changed, so has he." persuaded August.

"Not exactly." Her eyes reddening, Lucia began sobbing, "I would never allow anyone to hurt Timothy and Janet, and Paula is my best friend. His behavior is just an attempt to ruin everything I've got. Yes, people change, but how can a man change so completely!" Lucia stepped backward to keep away from August, "I'm going to meet him anyhow. I shall check on Paula at least. I need to know if Paula is safe enough now, and I will never take in any word from him..." August took his arm back slowly and just let her go. when Lucia got out of his sight, August called up Burton, instructing him to protect her in the Thomas' house. In fact, both August and Burton had already detected the change of Paul after their contact on the project of Knight Town. Cloud Technology, which had once been a peaceful player, had now evolved into a predator which was watching every rival in the trade intensely. But August just hadn't expected Paul to be so

ruthless and aggressive that he even wouldn't spare his own family!
