Chapter 692 Definitely not the Substitute!

In the house of the Thomas family, Daryl and Paula were lolling on the sofa and watching the live stream projected on

the TV screen. As the laughter of Timothy and Janet resounded in the living room, Paula was so intoxicated, "Daryl,

you've got to meet the two kids! I bet you'll love them at the sight of their cute faces."

Daryl only passed Paula an apple she'd just peeled, smiling faintly. Daryl had made quite some efforts to bring Paula out

of her room to reconcile with her brother. Though Paul and Paula still couldn't be as intimate as before, that was a

significant gesture after all.

Paula recommended the program of Timothy and Janet to Daryl as soon as the live stream started, and Paula herself of

course joined the fan group of "How I Wish They Were My Kids" in no time.

"Do we really look alike? Lucia and me, I mean." demanded Daryl curiously.

After some consideration, Paula nodded before she shook her head, "You only resemble what she was like several years

ago. You did strike me that way when I first met you." Conscious of the note of disappointment in Daryl's eyes, Paula

hastened to add, "And I bet Paul will finally be fond of you since I, as Lucia's best friend, can well accept you now. It's

just a matter of time. "

"I hope so." Daryl sighed lightly and cast an involuntary look at the study.

The door of the study opened at that instant to reveal Paul, who caught Daryl's gaze the moment he went out. Daryl's

face just reminded him of Lucia, and thus made him softer than ever. He went up to Daryl and stroked her hair, "Did

Paula pick on you?"

"Please!" Having a bite of the apple, Paula pre-empted. "I'm getting along with Daryl so well that you seem to be the

unnecessary one here!"

Holding his big hand, Daryl replied gently, "Paula is so nice a girl. Your worry is unnecessary."

Paula just couldn't wait to drag Daryl back in front of the TV for the live stream.

Yanny's voice came from the screen, "Lucia, you are so good at educating the kids. How I wish I could have your help

with the education of my kid in the future!"

Lucia's silvery laughter then followed, which sounded so cruelly familiar to Paul. His face darkened at once as he gazed at

the screen which instantly showed the face he was missing so much. On the screen, Lucia appeared even prettier after

she married August and her face was brimful of happiness.

The two kids were surrounding their mother, as one was doing massage on her shoulders and the other rubbing her legs.

Timothy answered Yanny's demand, "Auntie Yanny, you and your little baby can live with us. We can look after the baby

for you." Janet then added, "Our house is so large and Dad knows everything. He can be the teacher of the baby too." August's tall figure appeared on the screen as the conversation went on. Having placed the clean strawberries on the

table in front of the two women, he began smoothing the messy bangs of Lucia.

Facing such a sweet scene, Daryl couldn't help exclaiming, "What a pair Lucia and Mr. Adams are!"

That remark only intensified Paul's resentment. "What are you watching?" he asked with a note of chilliness. Daryl had never witnessed him in such a filthy temper. She answered Paul in bewilderment, "Why? Just a reality show of

families with kids. Paula loves it so much. Kids there are just so cute!"

Paul finally failed to tame his anger. He hurled the remote control towards the screen and the picture on it turned blurred

immediately with the noise after a bang.

"Are you going out of mind?" Paula rose and glared at him.

Clenching his fists tightly, Paul made strenuous efforts to suppress the urge to hit Paula. "I'll get down to sending you to

Amecan for the courses. And you can only stay in your room for reflection before that!"

Paula retorted with a sneer, "Is it because you dare not to face me or my best friend?"

The truth she uttered just exasperated Paul. He went up to her and drawled his warning, "Don't stretch my patience to

the limit!'

"What's your limit? Lucia?" Paula reminded loudly, "The woman you are going to marry is right here. And you have no

right to miss Lucia!"

"Paula Thomas!" roared Paul. As blue veins stood out on his temples, he swept the porcelain vase on the table to the

floor.

Daryl gave a violent shudder. She then went up to protect Paula in her arms. "Paula, could you retreat into your room? I'll

handle it here." she persuaded with a trembling voice. Daryl then tried to get close to Paul gingerly. For one moment, she

was even puzzled about his true nature -- was it the graceful gentleman in her impression or this furious madman in

front of her? Or perhaps she was wrong from the very start. Paul would only reserve the tender side of him to Lucia,

rather than Daryl.

"May I have a word with you?" Daryl spoke as meekly as possible, in case anything would exasperate Paul again. Yet her timid voice only rendered herself more like a stranger in Paul's eyes. As Paul glanced coldly at her, he was more certain the woman in front of him could never be Lucia, for Lucia would never stare at him in terror. Daryl was only a shabby replica! "No call for that." Paul replied in a chilly voice. "Stay here quietly, or go into the room with her!" Daryl almost whispered with profound disappointment, "I think you need some time to cool yourself down. I'll go back home for some days, and let's discuss it when I'm back."

Hardly had she made the move, Paul tugged her back by the wrist and pulled her into his arms. "Where are you going?" questioned he grimly, "This is your home!" He wouldn't let her go, or else he would even lose the chance to meet the substitute of Lucia.

Meeting his ruthless glare, Daryl was so frightened that she struggled and cried desperately, "This is not my home! My family won't treat me like this! This is a home prepared for Lucia. I'm just nothing in your eyes!"

As Paul's pupils shrank, he abruptly clutched at her chin and raised his voice, "Then what do you think makes you Mrs. Thomas, but for Lucia's existence?"

"As though it's a blessing to be the ruddy Mrs. Thomas!" snarled Daryl. "I am Daryl Davenport! Definitely not the substitute of Lucia!"

"Yes, you are her substitute!" Paul was completely carried away by the hysteria. He tossed Daryl away by the arm unconsciously as he burst into fury.

Daryl had been struggling so strenuously that the sudden loosening of Paul's grip just made her stagger backwards out

of inertia. She then lost her balance and fell onto the floor, her arm pressing against the pieces of porcelain. Blood spurted immediately all over the carpet.
