Chapter 582 Get The Marriage Certificate First
After a moment of hesitation, Paula thought it carefully and then nodded slowly, "I went to the supermarket with Burton before we came to the police office. And I deposited my purse in the locker for about ten minutes. We left the supermarket very soon. "If August didn't lie about the thumb drive, then someone else had switched it."
When Lucia was saying, the looks on everyone's face were serious. They looked at each other with complicated expressions. Burton came to his senses first and started, "Then what we should do now is go to that supermarket and check the surveillance video of the locker. We may find something there." Lucia agreed on it with a nod, "You're right."
Sheriff Holland walked towards them when hearing Burton. He was willing to offer help. "Well, I'll go check the surveillance video with you." "That'll be great. Thank you so much." The four of them left the police office and headed out to the supermarket after making the decision. Soon, they arrived at the supermarket. The staff members helped with the investigation right after Sheriff Holland showed them his license.
However, everyone was stunned when they got to see the monitoring screen of that locker, as it was black and nothing could be seen. Pointing at the black screen, Sheriff Holland asked the staff member with a darkened face, "What's wrong with that surveillance camera?" All the other surveillance cameras were working well except the one aiming at the locker.
The staff member replied, "The camera is broken and we've reported it, but the maintenance man has yet to come." Everyone's face. darkened. Two seconds later, Paula clenched her fists and said angrily, "It must be Jeanne. She must have found out something and deliberately got someone to sabotage the camera. Then I can sue her." As Paula spoke, tears began to flow down her face. She had become much more vulnerable, both physically and emotionally, after a serious illness. Lucia was so sorry to see Paula being sad like this. Taking a deep breath, Lucia walked forward to pat her back and started to comfort her, "Paula, I definitely will figure this out." Now they had lost all the clues, so it seemed to be impossible for them to sue Jeanne. Due to the mental collapse, Paula couldn't stop crying. She finally got to stabilize herself after quite a long while. On the other side, Burton saw Sheriff Holland and Recorder Newman off.
Sitting in a nearby cafe, Paula was still somewhat depressed. She lowered her head and unconsciously rotated the ring on her finger with. no words. Looking at Paula, Lucia didn't know how to comfort her but she started, "Paula, Jeanne did it, so she would definitely leave traces behind. We need to be patient. Maybe we'll get something very soon." Letting out a bitter smile when hearing Lucia, Paula looked up at her, "Lucia, maybe it's doomed that I can't sue her. Right?"
Paula looked down at her ring and said softly, "I wanna get married to Burton." Paula suddenly changed the topic, which surprised Lucia. "Are you serious?" Paula smiled with a nod, "I mean it. I do wanna marry him." "That'll be great." Lucia said. Reaching out her hand, Paula pulled her gently, "Lucia, you have to help me, since I can't nail my brother at all."
Lucia said goodbye to Paula and Burton at the café, and then intended to drive back to her place. But she suddenly got a call from Zane on her way. Pressing down the button of the Bluetooth headset, she heard Zane's exciting voice. "Lucia, we found that guy, Jeff." Lucia was both surprised and excited, "You found him?" "Yeah. He's with us now. Lucia, you can come to our place when you have time." Lucia immediately braked at once and turned the car around with the fastest speed, "Okay. I'm coming." Lucia arrived at the place very soon. When she pushed open the door, she found the man so different from how he looked last time they met in the hospital. He was with more new wounds on his body and looked untidy. Lucia whispered to Zane, "What...what's wrong with him?" "He was being chased by the men of Bishop and was almost killed. He was badly injured and got saved by our men."
Lucia was kinda stunned at it and asked Zane in horror after a pause, "Why did the hangers-on of Bishop do this to him? Are you sure that they don't mean to kill him?" Zane replied in a low voice, "Well, he went to Lion Media and intended to take his revenge on Bishop.
He splashed the hall with the barrel of gasoline he brought there, which caused a huge mess. Lion Media tried hard to block the news, so nothing could be found online.
Hearing Zane, Lucia felt depressed somehow. Staring at the man who was covered with injuries, Lucia felt kinda sorry. Hesitating for moment, she walked towards to the aged man and said, "Mr. Jeff, do you still remember Garnett? He's living with us now." Jeff looked. pale when he heard Lucia. He said coldly, "What do you wanna do?" Lucia replied softly, "Nothing. I just want you two to have a reunion. He has been having a hard time when he's out alone during the days." Jeff didn't trust Lucia at all, so he looked at her with a guarded look on his face when hearing Lucia's words. Taking a deep breath, Lucia said seriously, "Mr. Jeff, when will you get to believe that I really mean to help you out?"
