Chapter 566 Great Wits Have Short Memories.

In the direction of the doorway, Zane led his men to unload. the breakfast, emitting a tempting aroma, The children's eyes shone with

star-like light. For them, even having breakfast was a difficult thing to achieve. After a few of Zane's men finished distributing breakfast

to the children, Lucia stood aside and watched them devour their food. She smiled.

Zane came over, lowered his voice and asked, "Lucia, when they're done with breakfast, what are you going to do after that?"

Lucia was stunned by the question, and her face gradually became serious. She took a deep breath and pondered for a moment before

saving softly, "First, count out the children who are not orphans. I will take them to the police station to check their account information

and see if we can get some clues."

Zane then asked, "What about the rest of the children who have no father or mother?"

"I'm going to take them to the Child Protection Society to register and see if there are any families willing to adopt them. Then I'll take them to the welfare houses I've chosen and do a site visit. It it's suitable, they'll be in the welfare house first."

When Zane heard that, he froze and said, "That's a tough task. With so many children and so many things to do, it will be very time and

energy consuming for you."

He paused and added with some concern, "Lucia, are you planning to take the whole process by yourself?"

Lucia took a deep breath, nodded gently and said, "I'm sure I wouldn't feel at ease if I wasn't in charge of the whole process from start to

end."

Zane advised gently, "But your legs... Besides, will the police department cooperate with you? Finding identification information for these children who have no clear identity is not an easy job."

Lucia slightly frowned but did not know what to say. Just then, an abrupt ringing of her cell phone interrupted her thoughts. She snapped back to her senses and hurriedly fished out her phone. There was an unfamiliar number flashing on the screen.

Lucia hesitated for a moment before answering the phone, "Hello? Who is it?"

The caller paused for a moment as her words fell. Soon, a clear male voice came, "Don't you remember me, Lucia? Great wits have short

memories?"

The familiar voice caused Lucia to be slightly stunned before she responded. She said, "Darnell?"

Darnell snickered and said, "Why are you so surprised? Didn't you make a note of my phone number?"

He was right, Lucia did forget to make a note of his number. She lost his cell phone number by accident before and he took the initiative to

call her. However, she forgot to make a note. And now he knew she forgot to make a note of his number again.

Lucia laughed awkwardly, took a deep breath and said, "Sorry, I forgot...

She was just about to apologize when Darnell's voice came through, "Where are you now? Have you gone to look for the child?"

Hearing that, Lucia suddenly remembered that he helped her to find Garnett. He told her on the phone yesterday that she could come

today. But last night she couldn't wait to come here and look for Garnett.

Lucia said in a soft voice, "I've found him."

Darnell said gently, "You did it so quickly."

Lucia hesitated for a moment and replied, "I went here last night."

At her words, Darnell let out a low laugh, asking, "What about now? How is the situation? It doesn't sound like it's going well, from what

you're saying "

"You... How do you know?"

Darnell smiled and asked, "Go ahead. What's going on again?"

Lucia hadn't wanted to say. But when she looked up, she saw the children having breakfast over there. She was touched. Thinking of his job, she hesitated and confessed, "This is a criminal gang that abets children to beg for money. There are more than twenty children in

all who are homeless and unattended."

Darnell paused and quickly asked, "What's the address? Send it to me.

"What do you want to do?"

Darnell said softly, "To see what's going on. Maybe I can help you and them."

After a moment's hesitation, Lucia responded and then sent the address. It was only ten minutes before an SUV stopped in front of

Sunshine Plant.

Soon Zane ran in to report, "Lucia, Darnell's here."

As he spoke, Lucia looked up and saw Darnell. He was wearing a military uniform and walked in. He was tall and handsome in military uniform and had a powerful presence that was intimidating. When they first met, he seemed relatively casual. However, he looked much

more serious this time. He was like the light, shining brightly and invisibly gathering everyone's eyes.

The children over there who were having breakfast were surprised to see him. They came together to whisper, "Look, look! Policeman..." "He's not a policeman. He's a soldier!"

"He's so handsome..."

In the midst of a crowd of people's gazes, Darnell walked straight towards Lucia. He glanced at the children over there and then smiled. Looking at Lucia, he asked, "What are you going to do with so many children?"

Lucia came back to her sense and paused, "Let's see if we can help some of the children find their families first. The others may have to

be sent to welfare houses."

Darnell raised his eyebrows slightly and asked directly, "How do you plan to help them find their families?"

"I'll probably seek the help of the police...".

Before she could say anything else, Darnell was already laughing out loud. He did not say anything, but turned and waved at the two

people he brought. The two men understood and immediately walked over, with instruments in their hands. They went directly to the

group of children, said something to them, and took the instrument for them to take fingerprints.

Lucia was surprised and asked, "What is this... for?"

Darnell explained seriously, "We need to check the existing Austos City database for their fingerprints first. If there is, it will save us a lot

of work."

Lucia was slightly surprised. After a few seconds, it dawned on her. Looking at Darnell, she hesitated and thanked him, “Thank..." Before she could say thank you, Darnell interrupted her. He raised his hand slightly and said, "You don't have to thank me. I'm doing business with some friends nearby. It's so coincidental. Therefore, I came over to take fingerprints by the way."

He spoke in a relaxed tone, which instantly eased Lucia's burden. She had thought that he came here on purpose to help her. After they recorded the fingerprints, they transmitted the data to the information room at the headquarters. The results would be available after a period of time.

It was hot and sweltering in Sunshine Plant. The sun was shining outside and the children ran out into the yard, laughing and joking in a rare moment of relaxation. They finally got the chance to play games. Lucia got a chair and sat down, watching the scene quietly. Suddenly, she felt a lot more settled. She had a strong sense of satisfaction and relief when these children trust her and show their smiling faces again. It was a strength that kept encouraging her to do it and keep doing it.

A tall figure approached. Immediately after, Lucia heard Darnell's voice coming, "Have some juice."

Lucia turned her head to look at him and took the raw juice from his hand. She then smiled at him and said, "Thank you."

She said it sincerely. This morning, he was busy, assigning his two colleagues. They took fingerprints, registered children's identities,

and didn't take any breaks at all. She never expected him to help her before, but things were always so unexpected.

Darnell leaned back lazily in a chair and took a sip of black tea. Looking at the children playing games over there, he narrowed his eyes and said, "The test results have come out, a few of the children's parents are still living. I have already informed my friends at the police station. They will go to make contact."
