Taking into account background checks and screenings, one must pass Gregory Graham’s strict standards and consideration before one could work in the chateau.
He did live here after all. All the secrets and documents regarding the Dragon Regiment were here and if it fell into the wrong hands due to a shady figure, it would be a big mess.
Somehow, he still allowed Andrea to come over to the main building so that she was a bit more comfortable.
Vickie was a little worried and felt it might not have been the best idea.
On the other hand, Gregory was a meticulous man. He would have already thought of this beforehand.
Besides, Andrea was an orphan with a clear background. She was also still young. If there were any suspicions on her, he would have her background checked already. Problem solved.
With that, Vickie stopped brooding on it.
Andrea was over the moon when she saw Vickie.
It was as everyone said, Gregory had misunderstood Vickie by thinking she was the one that poisoned Yuliana and throwing her out of the chateau.
Andrea was heartbroken to think that she could never see Vickie again.
Now that she knew that Gregory was fooling everyone, did that not mean Vickie could return?
She was all smiles as she walked in, beaming. “Miss Thomas, I’m so happy to see you again.”
Perhaps the experience of being betrayed by people she thought were her closest friends had changed her and she now felt inclined to think everyone close to her was scheming something.
Her perception of many things was grayer.
Still, when she saw Andrea, she felt a sense of warm kindness despite her just being a maid.
Vickie smiled. “I told you, calling me Miss Thomas makes me feel like an old teacher. If you don't mind, you can just call me Miss Vickie. I’m older than you by quite a bit.”
Andrea’s eyes shone.
“That- can I really call you that?”
One must be aware that the rules in the chateau were very strict.
Logically, Vickie was a guest here, maybe even the future mistress. Andrea was just a maid.
To call your mistress by her given name? It was rather unthinkable.
Vickie smiled. “Of course, you can. As for Mr. Osborne, I’ll let him know. Don't worry.”
Andrea was so happy she started tearing up.
“Of course.”
She paused before beaming. “Miss Vickie.”
Vickie nodded.
She pointed to the suitcase placed not too far off and said, “Help me get the medicine box out please.”
“Yes, Miss.”
Andrea immediately took out the medicine box and helped Vickie apply the medication in preparation for her afternoon nap. After that, she dismissed Andrea saying that she can return after she woke up.
She nodded and quietly tiptoed out of the room after Vickie had lain down.
The maids’ rooms in the main building were in the back on the first floor.
It was not too far from Gregory and Vickie’s rooms, roughly two to three minutes away.
After Andrea had left, Vickie did not sleep.
Perhaps too much had happened in such a short amount of time and her mind was jumbled. Hence, she lay on the bed with confused emotions, unable to sleep.
Vickie closed her eyes as she lay here, thinking back to what Dan Thinple had said to her in the morning.
Looking at the scene before her, Vickie frowned and felt that something was amiss.
It was all wrong. Someone had indeed tried to poison her and even though it never reached her, it was intended for her.
The reason why the other party targeted her was because both Vickie and Yuliana ate the same food at meals. One, it was so that they were treated equally, and two, it saved time for the kitchen maid.
Those dishes never had an issue.
Instead, the white fungus lotus seed soup was the one that got poisoned.
What did this mean?
Well, it first meant that the other party must be someone very familiar with her lifestyle.
Since she was regularly angry back then, Vickie would ask for the kitchen maids to make white fungus lotus seed soup for her daily to cool her down.
This was something Yuliana had never requested.
That meant that if Yuliana did not have a random urge to drink the soup and ordered Ginny to snatch it, the poison would have 100% gone into her belly.
After all, she had been drinking it for several days before the incident.
It just had to be that one day.
The other party had to have guessed it early on that this was something that she would have drank, so they put it in the soup and not her daily meals.
Not to mention that the food for everyone was made in one big pot. If it happened in the kitchen, the poison would have been in the whole pot, and Yuliana would have been poisoned too, not just Vickie.
To poison it after they left the kitchen would also be far too risky.
The food was always carried out by two maids back to back. The trip from the kitchen to the dining hall was rather short as well. The kitchen was on the first floor and their respective rooms were on the second floor. The dining hall was also on the first floor.
With all that in place, it could only mean one thing.
