Spoiled by the President novel Chapter 707

Someone once told Nell that there was more than meets the eye to Gideon Leith.

Nonetheless, most of the time, she never noticed anything unusual about him.

She wondered whether she was overthinking it, but sometimes, she had a hard time understanding him.

Nell knew full well that he loved her very much and would never hurt her. Yet, she realized that she did not know him as well as she thought.

Nell would never forget that one afternoon when she was reading and having tea in front of the French windows of the café. Back then, Gideon appeared without warning at the doorway.

When she sensed his presence and turned to look at him, he already had his eye on her.

However, his gaze seemed strange. It felt like he was looking at her, and at the same time, it felt like he was looking past her and saw a distant and faraway place or even a person.

Nell told herself that she should not make things up. After all, it was common knowledge that Gideon loved her.

Still, she could not help it. Every time she recalled that moment, she thought of his gaze as a padlock that was chained around her heart, dragging it down and draining her of her energy.

She was reluctant to ask him as there was hardly any reason for her to do so. How could she bring this up to him based merely on the way he stared at her?

Then again, she knew that he was hiding something from her. As a woman, this was her sixth sense; her intuition.

Neither was she able to question him nor dared she investigated this matter on her own.

Aside from the fact that Gideon would find out immediately if she began her investigation, assuming she did find something, it was fine if the outcome was positive. How was she supposed to take care of things if the outcome was negative?

Ultimately, Nell was afraid.

She appreciated the happy life she received after many trials and tribulations. She did not want her peaceful and blessed life to be disrupted again.

Therefore, she pretended not to know or sense anything.

This time, she made up her mind to investigate the matter of being unconscious at sea nine years ago.

She did not tell Gideon because of the sensation she felt earlier.

Nell had a nagging feeling that nothing good would happen if she told him about this.

It was based on her intuition and nothing else.

As she thought of this, Nell fell silent and did not speak.

Nancy refused to say anything further. She merely let out a sigh.

Soon, the car arrived at the hotel and both women got down. When she was back in her room, Nell phoned Gregory.

It was 6:00 pm, but it was already midnight for Gregory.

When the call was connected, Nell heard Gregory’s voice, that sounded as if he had just been jolted awake from slumber.

“Hey.”

“I got the first prize.”

Nell did not care whether he had been sleeping. At any rate, this fellow hardly cared about her feelings, so it was payback time.

A series of vague noises appeared on the other end. It sounded like he had gotten out of bed.

Following that, she heard his voice again, which was much more alert this time.

“You’ve got it? Send me a photo of the trophy.”

Nell stiffened and scoffed. “Why? Don’t you believe in my skills? Worried that I’m lying?”

Gregory chuckled. “I trained you myself. If I don’t believe in you, it means that I don’t believe in myself. Alright, cut the crap and send me a pic.”

Gregory laughed and said in a serious tone, “That time, I happened to go out to sea with my friends to fish and have fun. You know that I got to know a bunch of trust fund babies in Country F. Usually, we like to have fun at the sea, and that day was no different from the rest.”

“That day, I was unlucky and didn’t manage to catch one fish. I felt annoyed when my friends caught fish.”

“I got mad and threw a bomb into the water to blast the fishes out. However, instead of blasting the fishes, I blasted you out.”

Nell was confused.

What was he getting at?

What did he mean by blasting her out?

Gregory seemed to realize the question in Nell’s mind, so he explained cheerily, “It was like this. When the bomb exploded in the water, I thought I would be getting some fishes, so I cast my net. However, the net felt extraordinarily heavy and I was unable to lift it. I was astonished, I thought I was so lucky that I caught a shark.”

“So, I called some of my friends to help me pull the net. Instead of seeing a shark, the more we pulled, the more the figure looked like that of a human.”

“When we managed to pull the whole net up, it did turn out to be a human. Eh… speaking of which, I might have to apologize to you. Perhaps, back then, you were just floating at sea and weren’t seriously injured, but my bomb exploded in the area near you and wounded you in the process.”

“Later, I firmly suspected that your amnesia wasn’t caused by those guys, but by my bomb.”

The more Nell listened, the angrier she got.

She could almost visualize the smugness on the man’s face when he uttered that last sentence.

If Gregory was standing in front of her, she would have bitten him on his face.

Yet, she eventually suppressed her wrath.

She asked, “And then?”

“And then? It was just like what I told you. Seeing how pretty you were, I took you back to our base camp and wanted to make you my wife. Pfft, too bad! I guess we weren’t destined to be with each other and you were taken by someone else.”
