The iron chair was thickly cushioned so that it would not be uncomfortable.
On the table next to it was the morning tea and snacks that the maids had just brought in, as well as the plate of fruit that Natalie had just served. It made up a complete setup for an elevenses.
The weather in March and April was the best and most comfortable time to drink tea and bask in the warm spring sun.
Natalie took a sip of tea and narrowed her eyes in a smile while her expression was comfortable.
However, next to her, Xavier felt aggrieved. He took a careful look at Natalie and asked tentatively, “Wifey, that morning tea…Is there any for me?”
Natalie paused and gave him a sideways glance. “Would you like some too?”
Xavier nodded. Then, he saw her pour a cup of warm water for him from the nearby pot.
“Have some water. What kind of tea do you plan on drinking when you’re injured?”
Xavier was speechless. He looked at the impossibly plain cup of boiled water in front of him and did not know whether to laugh or to cry.
“Honey, I only hurt my leg and ribs, not my stomach. Isn’t it okay to drink tea?”
“Says who?” Natalie retorted confidently. “Don’t you know that tea is cool-natured? If you want to recover from your injury, don’t you dare to even touch any tea or crabs. Watch yourself.”
After she spoke, she no longer bothered with him and continued to drink her tea and eat her snacks.
Having been dismissed by her this way, Xavier knew there was no hope for him to drink tea that day. The only thing he could do was to pick up the cup of water and drink it.
Fortunately, the atmosphere was peaceful, so he did not care what he was drinking.
The two just sat quietly, basking in the sun.
Many things had clearly happened recently, but at this time, the two sat together as if their hearts were connected. There was no need to say anything at all.
After all, they had been married for more than twenty years.
They already had a tacit understanding of many things in their heart. There was no need to voice it, and they did not want to say anything either. With just one glance, they already knew everything that needed to be known.
Even so, after considering it carefully, Xavier still decided to tell her that Spencer had planned to assassinate him. After all, he had handled the matter in the way he did for the sake of the Wright family.
Natalie was the only one still alive from the Wright family, so she had a right to know about this.
Nevertheless, she was not surprised after listening to the story.
After being silent for a moment, she also told him about the fact that Emilia had come to see her several times in the past few days.
Xavier’s mood grew complicated at that juncture. Then, he sighed emotionally. “In the end, this matter started because of me, and it’s also my fault. If I hadn’t been so indecisive back then, it wouldn’t have caused the harm to everyone today. Nat, you’ve suffered all these years.”
As Natalie froze, her eyes darkened uncomfortably. Then, she snorted coldly, pretending as if she did not care, “Who cares about the suffering you just mentioned?”
Although she said that, her eyes still flashed with emotional tears.
Upon seeing this, Xavier could not help but smile. He suddenly reached out and grasped her hand.
“Wifey, I love you.”
“You did,” Xavier said firmly, “I’m not stupid. I could tell, but I just didn’t know how to talk about it before. Now that I have the opportunity today, I’ll make it clear to you once and for all.”
Natalie listened to his tone. It was as if he was opening his heart wide and bearing everything to her, open and honest.
A rare feeling of nervousness suddenly welled up. She could not help but purse her lips and curse in her heart!
She was already this old. The man in front of her had been lying in the same bed as her every night for over 20 years.
She could picture him even with her eyes closed. How could she feel nervous about him now?
However, although she thought this way, the tenseness of her body still betrayed her inner emotions.
She heard Xavier say slowly in a deep voice, “I know that you’ve always misunderstood me. You thought I liked Emilia even though after all these years, you’ve already found out that nothing happened between us that night.
“However, in your heart, you still think that when you went abroad back then, I took Emilia as your replacement and fell in love with her.
“That’s why, all these years, even if you don’t say it, I can still feel the resentment and hatred you had for me. That kind of hatred sometimes made me feel helpless. I didn’t know how to explain it, because no matter what I said, it would sound like a weak excuse to your ears.
“I don’t know if you’re willing to believe what I’m saying now, but I still want to say it. I’ve never fallen in love with her before.”
“Back then, the person I loved was you. After being married for more than 20 years, the person I love is still you. Even now, the person I love will always be you. Nat, if fate allows it, the only person I’ll love for the rest of my life will also be you.
“That’s why, don’t wear out our relationship anymore with these unnecessary misunderstandings, okay? We’ve been together for so many years now. You should know well enough about my character.
“You know very well what kind of person I am. There’s no need for me to deceive you. I just feel that it’s not easy for a person to meet someone they truly love in their life.”
