Spoiled by the President novel Chapter 657

Janet stood there, pursing her lips.

After several seconds of silence, she said, “Dad, I haven’t been back for two years. How are you?”

Father Hancock threw a glance at her and faintly answered, “You have eyes to see how I am doing. Why bother to ask?”

Janet, “...”

She wondered where Father Hancock picked up the habit of lashing out every time there was a disagreement.

Janet had mentally prepared herself before she was brave enough to have an in-depth heart-to-heart talk with her father.

Nevertheless, the air of pleasantness was wiped out with Father Hancock jumping down her throat.

Feeling a throbbing pain in her head, Lucy helplessly sighed.

After much contemplation, Janet took a seat on a nearby chair.

It seemed impossible to get through to Father Hancock through affection. Well, she had to forget it and go back to communicating via the conventional way.

With that in mind, Janet was ready to go all out.

Meeting Father Hancock’s eyes, she uttered, “Dad, to tell you the truth, I’m definitely going to marry Liam. Our child is grown up and it has been two years since we registered our marriage. Can’t you put away your prejudice towards us and agree to our marriage?”

While brewing tea, he coldly scoffed.

“Aren’t you two already married regardless of whether I agree to it? Is it that important to you, that I give you my word?”

Janet froze once again.

The old man was like a firecracker being set ablaze at whatever that was brought up.

She gave up on resisting.

Lucy was just going to take whatever that came at her.

She bluntly continued, “You know well what it means to me if you could acknowledge it. Why say that to rile me up? Would I bother to call home all the time over the years, begging for your forgiveness if I didn’t care?”

Father Hancock’s motion was put on pause.

Janet did indeed often call home over the years.

However, he would only accept the calls when his grandson was on the other line to hear his voice. Otherwise, Father Hancock did not know how to communicate with Lucy half the time.

This method of refusing to communicate led Janet’s efforts to better the father-daughter relationship to a dead end.

Helpless about the situation, Janet chose to do it face-to-face today.

Ethan put down his tea tools and lifted his chin to gaze at her.

It was a rare serious and solemn look Janet had seen throughout the years.

Caught in a momentary daze, she felt as though time went back many years to when her father sat there, giving her a talking-to with a long face.

It had been a long time since that happened.

Father Hancock would not tell her off like this due to the silent treatment.

He refused to speak even a word to her, let alone lecture her.

For some reason, her eyes welled up with tears. She then heard Father Hancock mutter in a low voice, “I’ll go straight to the point since you really want to know.”

Janet nodded. “Go on.”

Father Hancock’s voice was stern but it was obvious that he was taking it seriously.

“I didn’t approve of your relationship with Liam because he is from the Griffin family. I’m sure you know the history revolving around the Griffins.

“Jan, it is hard for you to imagine nor have you been through the much darkness and complexity in the world. I don’t wish for you to get sucked into these dark struggles.

“Regardless of who you choose to marry or don’t marry at all, I can still afford you if you remain in Jincheng. However, have you thought of following him to Country F if you tie the knot with him?

Janet had always been a model child.

She could be wilful at times but she knew when to stop and not go too far.

Nonetheless, everything was turned upside down when Liam came into the picture.

She fell in love with whom Ethan, as a father, was unsure he could get a grasp on.

That was another complicated yet faraway world. He had arranged an investigation on Liam and discovered what the boy had gone through over the years. He was also aware that Liam was no longer the poor kid who once wooed Janet.

It was more concerning for this very reason.

Ethan worked his way in the world for decades, building Hancock Enterprise from scratch to where it was today. The number of trials and tribulations he encountered on the way was endless.

Of course, he was not ignorant to what Liam’s status as an illegitimate child of the Griffins would bring.

As a father, he did not like Liam as a person, nor did he want anything to do with the force behind Liam.

A businessman may put a higher value on material gains and the business world might have its dark side, but in general, they still functioned within the boundaries of the law.

The Griffins were a different story altogether.

As far as he knew, the Griffin family engaged in many illegal activities in Country F, and even around the Golden Triangle area. With their dirty hands tainted with blood, those running legitimate businesses dared not look them in the eye nor get involved.

This was the reason why he was so against Janet’s relationship with Liam.

Nevertheless, it was too late to talk about this now.

With that in mind, Ethan sighed.

He reached out and patted his daughter’s back before softly adding, “Your mother passed away early. I promised her that I’ll take care of you two, especially you.

“But honestly, I failed. I can’t change your mind when it comes to love.”
