Taken aback, Lucy turned to Carina subconsciously and asked, “What’s going on outside?”
Carina was stumped. “I don’t know.”
However, she soon returned to her senses and answered, “Sister Lucy, take a seat here. I’ll go out and have a look.”
She strode out.
By the time Carina returned, it was ten minutes later.
Once she entered the room, Carina closed the door covertly with a bizarre look on her face.
Lucy was confused. “What happened out there?”
Still looking peculiar, Carina approached Lucy and bent over to whisper, “Sister Lucy, guess who I saw outside?”
By the way Carina was keeping her in suspense, Lucy could tell it must be someone she knew personally. Hence, she enquired out of curiosity, “Who?”
“Second Young Master Foster.”
What?
Lucy froze, forgetting to take a sip of the tea an inch away from her mouth as her mind went blank.
The door to their room was suddenly kicked open.
The pair jumped.
She lifted her head and saw Joel standing there in a glum.
Following behind him was an aggrieved Jada with a flushed and tear-stained face.
It was evident that the earlier noise outside was Jada pestering Joel.
Awkward from meeting with Jada again, Lucy smiled stiffly at her as a show of courtesy before turning her head away in guilt.
Oh, no, oh, no!
What was Foster trying to do?
He knew that she had taken Jada’s money in an agreement to not get in the latter’s way, yet Joel had brought Jada to her.
Was he trying to give her a hard time by getting Jada to hate her guts?
Although at a loss of words, Lucy dared not say a word.
As for Jada, her face turned as white as a sheet, having drained of color when she realized the woman sitting in the room was Lucy.
“Why-why you...”
Helpless, Lucy waved at her with a smile.
“Miss Swanson, Second Young Master Foster, what a coincidence. Are you here for a meal?”
She intentionally disassociated herself from Joel.
Nevertheless, Joel was not going to let her get her way.
He was fed up with Jada. This woman was like a sticky candy as she stuck to him wherever he went.
She even fancied herself clever to feign an encounter, but he was not thick in the head to fall for such a poor ruse.
What a joke!
However, Joel happened to notice Carina sneaking around for a peek earlier outside and it immediately hit him that that woman was eating here.
So he came running over without a second thought.
Gritting her teeth, Jada had not gotten the chance to say anything when Joel made a beeline and took a seat right beside Lucy.
“Didn’t you say we’re having a meal together? Why didn’t you let me know that you’ve arrived beforehand?”
Lucy was dumbfounded
No, she did not and she knew nothing!
Nonetheless, thrice the denial still could not save Jada from burning in rage.
With total disregard to Joel’s cold complexion, she pranced in and screamed with her finger pointing at Lucy. “Joel Foster, why are you still with her? Don’t you know what kind of woman she is?”
Lucy had her head hung low quietly as she engaged in her thoughts.
“Take it!”
The man’s tone turned harsh out of the blue. Without another word, he shoved the card in the palm of her hand to make her hold it.
Lucy could not refuse. Moreover, she might embarrass Joel if she continued to insist in front of Jada. Hence, she was left with no alternative but to accept it.
Joel happily shuffled her hair. “Now that’s a good girl.”
Meanwhile, Jada was neglected the entire time. She was utterly dumbstruck by how she went from being the lead to a bystander.
Jada was confused.
Hey hey hey, what was going on with you two? She was very angry when she came here looking for trouble, could they, at least, give her some respect?
Besides, the story was not supposed to end up like this.
What happened to blowing a fuse? What happened to the break up due to a misunderstanding?
She had put a lot of thought into planning this. Could they at least have respect for the fruits of her labor?
In addition, Joel, was he not missing the point?
Why was he focused on the fact that she was poor when this woman took her money, instead of on the point that she sold you out for money?
What was wrong with him?
Jada was losing it!
She was having an unprecedented breakdown.
She never imagined that there would be a day she would feel so defeated on such a matter.
It was as though you were the one who cautiously and conscientiously made every precaution in preparations and plotting.
Though when you finally got a chance to make a move, you realized that the person had never thought of you as an opponent and paid you no attention.
In their eyes, you were nothing!
Jada was so furious that she could pass out. However, her manager, Sister Elsa scurried in from behind, and having noticed the tension in the air, she immediately held onto Jada before the latter took the plunge.
