Her mouth was already completely numb before he reluctantly released his grasp.
His voice was hoarse. “Did you taste it?”
Lucy covered her mouth. Her tongue was so numb that she could not speak. She could only glare at him with her enthralling eyes, and her curly eyelashes were moist. She looked a little indignant and thoroughly disoriented, but her beauty was simply breathtaking.
Joel’s dark eyes gazed at her ravenously. Behind his eyes, desire was crashing into him like huge waves.
Disconcerted by his gaze, Lucy stood up with a jolt and pushed him away. “Rogue!”
She then turned around and ran into the kitchen.
Joel’s eyebrow twitched. He lowered his eyes, glanced at himself, and rubbed his temples in a headache.
…
Lucy took out a carton of milk from the fridge and drank two full glasses of milk before the spiciness in her mouth receded.
The man also drank a lot of water. The heat of the chili made his lips abnormally red. This was the first time Lucy had seen him look so disorganized, so she could not help but chuckle.
Most of the anger she felt towards him had dissipated.
She looked at the time — it was almost 8:00 pm. The sky was completely dark, and the wind was very strong. Dark clouds filled the sky, pointing towards the possibility of rain. She raised an eyebrow. “Aren’t you leaving?”
Her tone was filled with disdain and reproach.
Joel was a little annoyed. Over the years, people had always begged him to stay, but why was she chasing him away?
Nevertheless, he did not betray any expression on his face. He took out his phone and said, “I’m calling the chauffeur now.”
Thus, Lucy did not say anything else. Leaving him in the living room, she walked into her room.
A while ago, Cathy Sym had accepted an IP historical drama on her behalf, which would start filming in a week. Therefore, Lucy had to hurry up and familiarize herself with the script.
This drama itself was not a big production, but it would still attract some attention due to the popularity of the novel author. With the addition of big shots like Jada Swanson, the line-up should not be taken lightly.
Thinking about Jada, Lucy could not help but frown.
Just thinking with her toes already told Lucy that the woman would not treat her well. There was going to be hell to pay again!
Ugh!
Lucy sighed. She did not want to think about this anymore. So, she banished all related thoughts and focused on studying the script.
This was the sight Joel saw when he came in. The woman was sitting under a desk lamp, intently studying a script. The warm glow of the lamp bathed the side of her face, making her delicate features appear even more stunning. Her skin was smooth and her rosy-pink lips were slightly pouty. As her long eyelashes fluttered from time to time, it stirred up the desire in his heart as if they were brushing directly against his palms.
Suddenly, his phone began to vibrate. When he glanced down, he saw that it was the chauffeur.
What a killjoy. He ended the call.
Then, he lifted his foot and strode in.
The man’s footsteps startled the woman seated underneath the lamp. She raised her head briefly. “Is the chauffeur here?”
Joel Foster shook his head and frowned. “There might be some traffic, I’m sure he will be here soon.”
“Have you ever thought about the number of artists who are contracted with the company but are neglected? Even if they tried their best, they can’t even land the role of a passerby! Compared to them, I’m very lucky!
“Surely, President Foster already knows how competitive the entertainment industry is. Yet, you are accustomed to looking at people from your high and mighty perspective. You even use your ridiculous sense of superiority to criticize someone’s hard-earned effort. Don’t you think you’re just too much?”
The woman’s words rang loud and clear. Each of them carried a hefty weight.
Joel was astonished as he did not expect that she would get so agitated. However, he was touched by the seriousness in her eyes and his brows met briefly.
He suddenly realized that this woman in front of him was different from those he usually saw.
Those other women wanted nothing more than to marry rich. Even if they could not marry him, they would still take the opportunity to increase their popularity or use underhanded methods to get important roles.
This woman, he had investigated, was very clean. That night’s experience also proved that she had not had a man before him. The only reason she was able to survive in a dog-eat-dog world like the entertainment industry was that she truly enjoyed acting and loved her job as an actress.
Joel had been in the business for so many years and met all kinds of people. However, a gem like her was truly rare.
The bottom of his heart melted a little.
Seeing that Joel did not reply, Lucy thought that he did not care about her opinions, so she sat back down despondently and muttered to herself, “Forget it, it’s pointless to talk sense with second-generation heirs like you.”
As she was talking, there was a loud rumble in the sky. There was a deafening boom, followed by a massive shake.
Lucy was so startled that she leaped into the air involuntarily, but Joel quickly reached out to catch her, preventing her from falling.
A silver snake-like lightning flashed outside the window. Lucy mumbled, “Is it raining?”
Joel frowned. “The weather forecast this morning seemed to report that a typhoon is coming tonight.”
