The muscles on Celine’s face tensed up.
She would be regarded as petty if she were to say no.
Fortunately for her, she had been in the acting business for years while Nell had never engaged in acting. One may well imagine that Nell was clueless about theatrics.
She best fulfilled Nell’s wish to face humiliation.
With a card up her sleeve, Celine gave out a smile.
“Sure!”
Seeing as it was decided, Gareth agreed to it too.
Returning to behind the monitor, he was filled with expectancy.
Although he picked Celine to play Ashley Watson, Celine was not the perfect choice he had in mind.
However, without a better candidate on deck, he had to put up with such an arrangement for now.
As for Nell, Gareth was captivated by her from the get-go.
That calm yet distant demeanor and the chilling presence presented by the slight furrow between the brows was a similar resemblance to the Ashley Watson he had in mind.
Only, Nell was not an actress and did not seem to have any intention to venture into acting.
Hence, Gareth abstained from airing his views.
Performing arts was not a walk in the park anyway. Although there was editing involved in the later stages, the acting skills of an actor was still very important.
Celine may not be the perfect fit, but her skills were established. He believed that with devoted mentoring, Celine could possibly realize the character.
Nevertheless, it was for the best to have them compete on the same stage.
He could finally determine whether the Ashley Watson that he had in mind or the candidate that he was compelled to take on made the better fit.
It was not long before Nell and Celine walked out from backstage after a change of wardrobe.
Nell wore an armor suit while Celine was dressed in crimson imperial wear.
They both took up the gauntlet on the pinnacle scene of the entire script.
Nell was playing the role of Ashley Watson while Celine took on the role of Ashley’s sister, Alison Watson.
Both Ashley and Alison were the daughters of Xiyue Empire’s prime minister. The fall of Xiyue Empire saw Princess Nicole and they being held captive in the capital of Dongli Empire.
Ashley was a great childhood friend to Nicole Block. Proficient in martial arts, she shouldered the responsibility of protecting Nicole and her sister in the dark.
Yet to her dismay, their stay in Dongli Empire had not been long when Nicole Block willingly became a concubine to the emperor for the sake of their motherland.
Due to the disparity in values and views, she and her biological sister, Alison went their separate ways.
Alison fell in love with the crown prince of Dongli Empire and did not hesitate to betray Ashley, revealing the hidden lairs of the remaining survivors of Xiyue Empire to the prince just so she could be his wife.
Cutting ties with Alison, Ashley fled their palace and traversed six empires before leading her the last of her people to raise the flag in the Northwest, establishing the first female-ruled empire, Xia Empire.
This scene surrounded Ashley, leading her men to attack Dongli Empire and Alison who became an empress dowager where they encountered once more after years apart, only to bid an eternal farewell.
At the call for action, the scene unfolded.
Alison sat upright on high. With the emperor passed on at this point and the new ruler still blossoming, she took on the reins of ruling as the empress dowager.
Outside the palace gate, a soldier reported an emergency.
“Empress Dowager, Xia Empire’s army has invaded!”
It stirred a huge turmoil in the palace hall.
“What do we do? Why don’t we just make a run for it?”
“It’s too late. The North, South, East, West gates were breached by the men of Xia Empire.”
“What about the generals and the military soldiers? Where are they?”
“They... They are all... dead!”
“You’re here.”
These words spoke of sarcastic bleakness.
Ashley darted a cold glance. The look prompted one of the men to drag Alison down from her throne.
“Let me go! I can walk on my own!”
She put up a struggle but was met with a merciless slap!
The person who struck her was Ashley.
Ashley coldly blurted, “This is for betraying me fifteen years ago!”
Fifteen years ago, Alison had already crawled into the crown prince’s bed while Ashley was plotting her escape. Alison had promised to help her but turned around and disclosed her plans to the crown prince.
She was almost killed by an arrow at that time.
Celine’s face hung to one side, in disbelief that Nell actually hit her.
However, she quickly realized that it was payback!
Nell was getting back at her for cracking the whip at Lucy.
She was a film star after all. Although lacking in skills, she got the fundamentals down.
After a swift show of fury, Celine resumed her composure.
“Sister, do you know why I sold you out?”
Ashley looked at her, indistinctly gathering a general idea.
She said, “Growing up, you were always the best and the most beautiful. Father liked you the best and mother was most fond of you. Even as enslaved prisoners, His Majesty the crown prince fell for you first.
“How is it that I don’t measure up to you? I’m better than you in needlework. I triumph over you in poetry and art. I’m not familiar with martial arts, but those are boy’s stuff. Why is it that you’re the one everybody loves?
“I swore to myself that I’ll never live in your shadow. I made an oath that I’ll climb to the highest peak and trample you under my feet!”
