Lucy Katz was afraid that her mother would misunderstand the situation, so she hurriedly explained, “Mom, don’t listen to him. We’re not...”
“Lu!”
Joel Foster interrupted her before she could finish her sentence.
He stood up, walked over to her, and put an arm around her shoulders to hug her. His voice was low and gentle, but Lucy heard a trace of threat in his tone.
“I know I’ve made you angry these past few days, and you’re just being coy with me. After all, we’ve been together for so long, so we shouldn’t get hung up over this small matter. Moreover, Aunty is here too. You wouldn’t want to make her worried, right?”
He said while exerting a slight force to his arms. The threat was self-evident.
Lucy was furious, but the man hugged her so tightly that she could not budge. She also did not want to overreact in front of her mother so that her mother would not be concerned.
In the end, she could only look up at the man, gritted her teeth, and said, “Who’s together with you? Joel Foster, stop spouting nonsense!”
Joel smiled lightly. His smile was gentle and charming.
“Look at you! You’re still mad at me. Did you forget that you were at my house that night...”
As he said this, his fingers lightly pinched Lucy’s waist from behind.
Lucy’s back stiffened and immediately thought about that night at Joel’s villa. This man had also pinched her waist like this and asked for her over and over again.
Her whole face turned pale.
Joel saw that his threat was effective and stopped giving her a hard time. He held Lucy’s shoulders and turned towards Mama Katz.
“Aunty, I still have some work to do at the office. Since Lu is here now, I’ll just take my leave.”
Mama Katz knew that he was a busy person and did not want to take up too much of his time so she nodded in agreement.
“Yea, okay. Go ahead and do what you need to. Sorry for troubling you today.”
Joel smiled and said, “No worries, Aunty. This is what I should do.”
After he finished talking, he gave Lucy one last look and left the room with Mike Luther.
Lucy closed the door behind them and walked over to her mother.
Mama Katz saw her expression and asked, “Why? Are you upset?”
Lucy looked at her mother.
“Mom, you’re still asking me this? Didn’t I tell you repeatedly not to let any strangers into your room? You’re here alone most of the time and I’m rarely with you, what if something happens to you?”
Mama Katz heard this and laughed.
“What could possibly happen to me? I’m a sickly old lady. Who would want to do anything to me?”
When she said this, she figured that Lucy was still unhappy, so she quickly added, “Also, Joel’s not a stranger. Did you forget? Your dad used to be an officer for his grandpa. You both grew up together in the same community. Don’t you remember?”
Lucy was holding the jar of water and her fingers clenched.
She was facing away from her mother and said unenthusiastically, “I forgot.”
Mama Katz looked at Lucy skeptically and asked, “You were almost 10 by then. How could you forget?”
As she said this, she sighed and continued, “Speaking of this, Young Master Foster is very caring. Even if he knew that the Katz family was no longer in power and I’m seriously ill now, he still didn’t mind our situation and came over to visit me. Lu, he’s a decent man, you need to appreciate him more.”
Lucy turned around and placed the glass of water on the bedside table. She looked at her mother with a gloomy face and said, “Mom, I’m not in a relationship with him.”
Mama Katz picked up the glass of water and took a sip.
Therefore, how would Mama Katz not catch the slight emotion that flashed across Lucy’s eyes?
She frowned and pondered for a moment, then thought about a possibility.
“Did that shameless Fourth Cecil beg you for money again?”
Fourth Cecil was Lucy Katz’s stepfather.
Lucy pressed her lips together and smiled at her mother.
“No.”
“Really? Don’t lie to Mom.”
Mama Katz was most concerned about Fourth Cecil. She blamed herself for having met him during her most desperate moment and even dragged her daughter into this mess.
Lucy shook her head, held her mother’s hands, and consoled her, “Really. Even if he comes to me, I don’t have any money to offer him. He probably knew that I wouldn’t give him the money, so he hasn’t bothered me in a long time.”
She did not want her mother to feel troubled.
The most important thing that could benefit a patient’s recovery was to keep an open and calm mindset.
If her mother knew that not only did Fourth Cecil pester her over and over again, he even ganged up with others to harass her, she would not tolerate it.
This time, Mama Katz did not detect Lucy’s hesitance.
“That’s good. Lu, if he looks for you, you must tell me. This bastard. I was so blind then, so I was tricked by him. Now that you’re finally out of this mess, I won’t allow him to hurt you again.”
After Mama Katz said this, she took a few breaths because she got too agitated.
