Suddenly, her phone rang. She knew that it was from her family without having to think about it.

They must be because they had confirmed the authenticity of the marriage certificate! Otherwise, they would not call her now.

Chloe walked back with each step and finally, she was by the roadside. There were fewer people at night as it was close to the sea, so she waited for a long time before she could get a cab.

She got into the cab and told the driver, “Take me to the Garden Of The Sea And Flowers please.”

After thinking for a bit, she switched on her phone and was about to call Mavis Cooper.

Mavis was her highschool classmate who was from a well-off family and had an active personality. The two had since been really close and with everything that had happened in the past two years, Mavis was the one who always supported and helped her. Besides her family, Mavis was the only one who was told about Chloe’s return to the country.

Yet, the moment she found Mavis’s phone number, her phone suddenly rang.

It was an unknown number.

Chloe frowned slightly. She had just changed her phone number when she returned to the country, so no one knew about it besides her father.

He must have realized that he could not contact her with his own phone, so he was trying to use another phone number.

With a sneer, Chloe canceled the call after hesitating for a second.

However, as soon as she canceled the call, the number called again.

The same number called again.

She then canceled the call yet again.

Three minutes later, her phone rang tirelessly without stopping.

Chloe was speechless. Could these people leave her be for a while?

She was angry and she felt that they were just too much. Did they call her to scold her even after they had done that at home?

Chloe gritted her teeth. She then picked up the phone and yelled, “Enough! Stop calling me, let me tell you, I’ve never done anything! Whatever you say is useless!”

She then hung up the phone after she was done speaking.

John was stunned as he stood on the large balcony and looked at the phone’s black screen.

His expression darkened immediately.

However, she did not show it. Instead, she replied softly, “Mmhm.”

The driver quickly said, “It’s dangerous for a lady to go to a hotel by herself. I have an empty room at my house, why don’t you stay at my place for the night?”

Although the driver had a kind tone, it was still weird for a stranger to invite a lady to his house.

Chloe glanced at him defensively and shook her head. “No thanks, there’s no need for that.”

“Little lady, don’t ignore my advice. Do you know how messy it is right now at hotels? There was a female guest who was forcefully dragged out of a certain hotel, you must’ve seen the news right? Those criminals will target young girls like you who are alone, how dangerous!”

As Chloe listened to his vivid description, she remembered the news.

However, she still thought that it was safer to stay at a hotel than to stay at a stranger’s house. So, she insisted on rejecting him. “No, thanks for your kind actions, but please send me to the hotel.”

The driver was not worried. He glanced at Chloe who had a serious expression through the car mirror, and he sneered coldly in his heart.

15 minutes later, the cab suddenly stopped at a deserted roadside.

“What’s the matter?” Chloe asked nervously.

The driver waved his hands and said, “The car has broken down for some reason, probably because the engine’s broken.”

The driver pretended to be helpless. “It’s not convenient to call the mechanic at this time, so I can only stop here for now.”
