He said while playing with her fingers as the sunlight illuminated the room, which made the room warm and it relaxed their minds and body.

Feeling a sense of uneasiness all over her body, Nell smiled shyly and pushed him away. “Stop, it tickles!”

“WIfey, is your body getting better now?”

Nell frowned and asked, “What do you mean by getting better?”

Gideon pulled her over abruptly.

Nell’s face flushed red. She wanted to stand up but was pressed down by her husband.

The man nestled his head into her neck and sniffed her fragrant hair. The moment seemed peaceful and mellow.

“Don’t go. Just let me hold you quietly like this for a little while.”

Gideon spoke lightly. His tone was gentle and their surroundings were warm and quiet.

Nell stiffened her back and stopped moving. She hugged her man’s shoulders lovingly.

Since she was pregnant, Gideon had been taking care of her and they only had sex a handful of times.

“What were you thinking about just now? You seemed unhappy.”

Nell twirled her hair and muttered, “Nothing much.”

“Don’t lie to me.”

Gideon’s eyes narrowed and Nell finally spoke the truth under his gaze.

“Gale Shelby came over this morning and told me about the Shelby family.”

Gideon was shocked.

He pressed his lips together and asked, “What did he say?”

Nell then reiterated what Gale had told her earlier today.

“I’m quite hesitant because I don’t want to get involved in the Shelby family’s matters. Honestly, it’s just too complicated and it goes against my values. I just want to live a simple life.

“I also don’t feel any sort of familial love for them. I’ll feel resentful if I did something for them and they probably wouldn’t like it either.”

Gideon snickered.

“Have you never thought about what taking over the Bauhinia Clan represents? The amount of power and wealth you’ll gain...”

Nell was dumbfounded.

She stared at Gideon and blinked her clear, watery eyes.

“I never thought about it. Besides, I never wanted wealth or power. All I want is you!”

Nell then flashed her brightest smile. Under the afternoon sun, she looked like a glowing elf. She reached out and put her arms around Gideon’s neck.

“I have you and our child. I can do whatever I like and act in the movies I want; all this is enough. I don’t want any more than this. Having too much means more responsibility and more sacrifices. I don’t wish for my life to be like that. I just hope that we’ll live a simple, warm, and happy life.”

Gideon felt his heart tremble.

He immediately grabbed the back of her head and kissed her deeply.

This kiss carried countless complex feelings — their turbulent love and those indescribable joy.

Nell mumbled and shrieked.

Feeling frustrated, Nell scratched her head.

“I’m not afraid of them, but even if one doesn’t die from too many flies, it’ll still be insanely annoying to be constantly pestered.”

Gideon laughed and stroked her hair. He said with a soft voice, “Didn’t you think of other ways?”

Nell frowned and looked at him. “What other ways?”

The man shook his head helplessly.

Then, he reached out and flicked her forehead lightly.

Gideon said in a pampered tone, “You’re just too caught up in it to see clearly.”

He sighed and continued, “Have you heard of the phrase: getting to the root of the problem?”

Nell paused for a moment before suddenly, her eyes were wide open.

“You mean...”

Gideon nodded his head.

“If you’re sure that you don’t want this, then you should let it go completely. This way, the Bauhinia Clan won’t have anything to do with you anymore. But Nelly, you have to think carefully, because once you do it, there’s no turning back.”

Nell was stunned and she thought about it briefly.
