Gideon did not want to explain too much to her, he only rubbed her head and told her solemnly, “Anyway, from now on, bring bodyguards with you wherever you go.”
Nell furrowed her eyebrows.
This time around she made no attempts to resist or refuse, she answered, “When Nancy is here I’ll have her accompany me every step along the way, I won’t leave the house alone from now on.”
Only then did Gideon nod his head.
“Nelly!”
Gideon suddenly called her name, his voice was low and hushed, almost like a sigh.
Hearing her name called, Nell gave him a short “hm”.
“If one day you find out that I was hiding something from you. Knowing that being with me means that you will always have to face dangerous situations, knowing that even if I do my best to keep you away from harm, I still can’t guarantee your complete safety. Will you blame it on me and choose to leave me out of fear?”
Nell was slightly caught off guard.
She did not know what Gideon was trying to imply when he talked about hiding something, or the dangerous situations he spoke of.
If he was talking about what happened today, if she had been more vigilant and diligent, such an event could have been completely avoidable. At the end of the day, it was all because she was too careless!
She shook her head, “What would I blame you for? Liking you is my choice. It’s only natural to have to bear some of the bad parts after experiencing the good things, why would I leave you?”
Gideon’s breath tightened when he heard what she said, his pupils themselves glowed.
He lowered his head and hooked her by her chin with his slender fingers, then told her, “Repeat what you just said.”
Nell blinked several times, feeling somewhat at a loss.
“It’s only natural to have to bear some of the bad parts after enjoying the good…”
Gideon interrupted her before she could finish her sentence, “No, the previous part!”
“Liking you is my choice…”
The moment the sentence came out of Nell's lips, she caught what she said and her little cheeks became flushed with red.
Her vision field suddenly turned dark, it was Gideon lowering his head to kiss her on the lips.
He kissed her deeply. It was not a rushed kiss, but a slow, thorough kiss, exploring each corner of her mouth. Hooking her closer to him, his large palms stroking her cheeks like she was his most prized possession in the world, like she would slip away if he just slightly loosened his grip.
It was only at this moment that Nell sensed the fear and agitation sheltered behind the man’s heart. He pulled her into his embrace, even though he held her tightly and firmly, Nell could sense his trembling heart.
What was he afraid of?
The man’s breathing tempo rose abruptly. Like a violent storm, from a tranquil breeze one second to a scowling storm, wreaking havoc the very next second.
He carried with him an unruly energy set to tear everything apart while he kissed her with everything he had, all the while pulling her body in towards himself. As if by pulling her closer inwards into his chest, he would never, ever have to lose her.
Nell kissed until she was out of breath, her mind was a sheet of blank white space. After a long time, enough for her tongue to become sore, Gideon released her from his frenzy. He bit her ears and whispered into them, “Nelly, I love you!”
Nell was shocked.
Gideon had never been an expressive lover. He was stoic, he was cool, he was prideful like a flower atop a mountain which you could only afford to gaze upward at.
And yet, someone like him felt so compelled at this moment to say something like that to her.
A mixture of hundreds of different emotions began swelling up within Nell.
She drooped her eyes slightly, keeping the emotions under them covered and spoke in a hushed voice, “Don’t worry, I’ll take good care of myself and won’t be a burden to you.”
Gideon smiled, “I’m fine with you being my burden to carry.”
“After it has passed, however! Everything coming your way will progress smoothly and prosperously. When I told President Leith and the others about it, they did not believe me. Look what happened now, it was true!”
Nell could not help but laugh, she turned to Gideon, “When did Doctor Emmy switch careers to being a clairvoyant?”
Gideon briefly glanced at him, “When he was younger, he went to the mountains in the region and was taken as a disciple by an old guru.”
“Pfft—” Nell could not stifle her laughter any longer, “Really? Doctor Emmy, who would have thought! To think that you are a practiced sage.”
Emmy became a little flustered and turned to Gideon, “That was so long ago, why bring that up. Why don’t you tell us about that time you spent a night in the girl’s bathhouse when you were a kid?”
Nell was taken aback for a moment and laughed harder, her face was full of disbelief, “No way? Why would you go to the bathhouse?”
Gideon’s expression had become darker, but Emmy fearlessly pressed on, “Why else? He couldn’t read when he was a kid, someone played a prank on him by telling him the female bathhouse was the male bathhouse. He only realized something was off after he went in, so he hid in the changing room and wouldn’t come out because of how embarrassing It was. He ended up spending the whole night there.”
Nell was laughing so hard she could barely breathe, “How old was he?”
“Probably a bit over ten!”
“A bit over ten? No way, why could he not…”
Nell stopped midway through her sentence with a frozen look on her face.
A bit over ten years old, forget about words like ‘Male’ or ‘Female’, he probably could even read simple books by then. How was he supposed to fall for a prank like that and end up in the female bathhouse?
She turned toward Gideon. There was a look of awkwardness on Gideon’s face, his expression was as dark as the bottom of a pan, he belted, “Enough of that! Give her the checkup first!”
Emmy responded smugly, “Ok!”
He then proceeded to perform the medical checkup on Nell.
