Although she was semi-conscious and did not have a clear look during the earlier scene in the hotel, she knew that Joel had saved her.
After they were in the car, she leaned against his chest and finally had the strength to utter, “Thank you.”
With downcast eyes, Joel stared at her.
He came out today for business. As he was not in the best of moods lately, he did not bring along any women but it had never crossed his mind that he would bump into her here.
In such a mess too.
Was she not at a shoot? Why was she with a bunch of scums?
Of course, he was aware of the open rules in entertainment and knew of a few people who loved to toy with female celebrities to validate their existence.
In those cases, it was sex in exchange for favor through mutual consent, and he had never taken a personal interest in that.
This sort of thing also happened in Anning International. As long as both parties were willing, everyone often turned a blind eye and paid no attention.
After all, not everyone could be expected to remain with a squeaky clean reputation and a saint in this corrupted industry.
However, he had never thought that this would happen to her one day.
Clenching his fist, he gazed at the woman with flushed cheeks who was about to lose consciousness. He resented the fact that he went soft earlier and did not cripple the Lawson guy right then and there!
Although he might have lost the opportunity to cripple him on the spot, he could still do it later!
No hurry though, he could take things slow.
The priority was to get to the bottom of this matter.
With that in mind, he smacked her face.
“Hey, Katz. Don’t play dead with me. Tell me what happened.”
Nonetheless, Lucy kept her eyes closed and showed no reaction.
Joel frowned in displeasure.
He refused to believe Lucy would abandon her dignity and fame, even selling her charm and body to drink with dirty old men for the sake of money.
By the looks of the state she was in, he probably would not be getting an answer.
Hence, Joel drove her to a hospital without further questions.
Lucy was not out of it for long.
She woke up about two hours later.
Lucy opened her eyes to a white ceiling. It took several seconds before she realized where she was.
As expected, she turned her head and saw the man entering through the door.
“Are you awake?”
With a stiffened face, Joel asked with a rather displeased tone.
Blinking her eyes, Lucy propped herself up.
“How did I end up in a hospital? Did you send me here?”
Joel curled his lips sneeringly. “What am I supposed to do, have you be all over me and act as your antidote instead of sending you to the hospital?”
Dumbstruck, Lucy looked at him in shock.
“I was all over you?”
“What do you think?”
“Huh...”
To be frank, her memory could be fuzzy because she was drugged and drunk, but she did not experience any blackouts due to the faint drug effect.
All she could remember was that she was saved by Joel and somehow vaguely getting into a car. Nowhere in her memory did she act indecently towards him.
Lucy was pretty confident of her self control.
Moreover...
She glanced at Joel’s androgynous and overly exquisite face.
She was not a fan of girly boys.
“Look into what the hell happened last night. Let me know once you’ve investigated.”
…
Upon her return, Lucy took a shower and plopped into bed.
She had never thought that she would sleep until 9:00 a.m.
She had a shoot at 10:00 a.m. and at least two hours were required to get into costume, hair, and makeup for historical dramas.
Normally, everyone would arrive several hours before. As the director did not see her first thing in the morning, he had arranged for someone to search the hotel and found out that she was still in bed. Due to that, he looked upset all morning.
“What did you do last night? Why did you get up so late today?”
Lucy let out an embarrassed smile. “I’m sorry, director. I went out to take care of something last night and returned quite late. I’m sorry to have wasted your time.”
“Alright, it’s okay. Get into makeup then.”
“Okay.”
As Lucy advanced to the dressing room, Suzy snorted to see her in a scurry.
Others may not know where she went last night but she had a clue.
Because...
She curled her lips coldly as she recalled the photographs someone had sent to her phone last night which had put her in a lighter mood.
There was no rush to handle this. She really had to work this to her favor. Although it was only a minor affair, she might receive good news if she played it right.
After all, who would have thought a supporting actress on the set would go to a place like that and get involved in a scandal with a guy!
The scandal would spread far and wide before the drama was released. By then, that woman might not be able to hold onto the supporting role.
With that in mind, Suzy snickered in delight. Just then, she was called by the director for the next scene, prompting her to move to the set.
Lucy returned to the dressing room for hair and makeup.
While her face was painted, she forked out her phone and gave Susan a call.
