Nell once read a line from a certain book.
‘Once you’ve ruled out the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be true.’
Hence, the true perpetrator could only be her!
Nell could not wrap her head around the reason why Celine would go to extremes and lay a finger on a child at such a critical moment.
However, she understood that, apart from Celine, everyone today carried no malicious intent towards her and Lizzy.
Moreover, if she remembered correctly, Lizzy was suddenly in a bundle of nerves after she had met Celine and had to go to the washroom.
All of these explained that it could only be Celine’s doing.
In fact, Nell was not really concerned about what Celine would do to her.
After all, it was a feud between them adults. For them to come into blows, it was due to their opposing standpoint rather than who was right and wrong.
Nevertheless, Lizzy was a different case.
She was only a child, yet Celine became so mad that she targeted a child. This was simply intolerable!
Stephanie gazed at her with troubled eyes.
“What do you plan to do? Grandpa will bail her out if it really is Celine’s doing. Sure, today’s celebration is a birthday party by name but in reality, it is to announce Celine’s identity and her marriage to the Youngest Graham. Grandpa isn’t going to let anyone get in the way of the marriage alliance between the Garretts and Graham.”
Nell smiled.
“Really? If that’s the case... I guess a fallout is impending. Nobody’s going to be let off the hook.”
Stephanie was dumbstruck.
“You’re thinking of exposing the truth?”
Nell simply replied, “I can turn a blind eye to anything, except harm towards my friends and family. This is the last straw. Unfortunately, Celine has managed to cross the line this time. I don’t care whether she’s getting married to the Grahams or anything else. I won’t rest and leave it at that.”
“But... didn’t you say that grandpa won’t believe you?”
“It’s his problem whether he believes me or not. I only want to do what I set out to do.”
Stephanie frowned while Nell just stared at the distraught look on her face and smiled. “Don’t overthink it. There are certain things in which the effect will come out different when you and I say it out loud. I won’t do it unless the situation calls for it. After all, I don’t wish for the old master to suffer such a blow in his last days.”
Amid Stephanie’s bewildered eyes, Nell turned and walked out without a delay.
Meanwhile, in the hall downstairs.
After seeing a doctor, Lizzy seemed much better.
The remaining guests, by now, had heard what happened tonight and tickled by curiosity, they gathered around.
Who would have thought that something like this would happen during a birthday celebration?
Everyone was curious to find out the culprit behind it.
Thus, the Leiths, as well as the Garretts were not looking too happy.
Following the instruction of Old Master Garrett, the housekeeper quickly retrieved the surveillance.
Right at that moment, Nell and Stephanie had gone downstairs and returned to the main hall.
As everyone discussed their views in low voices, Old Master Garrett was black in the face.
Today was his birthday celebration, yet with this incident occurring in the Garretts’ residence, not only did he get into the Leiths’ bad side, but he was thoroughly discredited too.
The future relationship between the Garretts and Leiths may be affected in the long run If he did not get to the bottom of this.
Who could be so horrible?
With a dreary look, Old Master Garrett rasped, “Where were you tonight when Lizzy fell into the water?”
A female guest softly taunted, “Is Old Master Garrett questioning all of us?”
“We have nothing against Miss Lizzy, why would we go after a child?”
“Yes. Everyone knows that Miss Lizzy is the apple of the Leith family’s eye. Of course, we’d rather butter her up than harm her.”
With a frown, Joseph muttered to Old Master Garrett, “Dad, everyone was either in the garden or lobby. Even if someone was near the pool, they won’t go near the toilet’s backdoor. My guess is it isn’t a guest.”
Old Master Garrett knew everybody present today was either rich or powerful, so they had no motive to harm a young child.
Nell suddenly scoffed, “It’s fine if the surveillance can’t tell who it is. Wasn’t there a butterfly? The butterfly doesn’t seem real. We can investigate whose room has the butterfly to find the perpetrator.”
While the crowd was dumbfounded, Old Master Garrett frowned and ordered the secretary, “Replay the video.”
The secretary complied. By the end of the video, it was concluded that although the butterfly looked real, it should be a remote electronic toy by the way it flew and disappeared in the end.
Who would bring such a thing to a celebration?
Old Master Garrett said in a gruff voice, “I’m sorry, everyone. Although I know all of you do not have the motive to hurt Lizzy, I’d have to offend everyone and check your personal items to uphold justice for a child.”
