Nell brought the bowl of soup, which was prepared by Aunt Joyce, to Gideon. As Nell had not been feeling well and often felt cold, and Gideon had been busy, Aunty Joyce made some soup for them to nourish their bodies.
Nell already had some, so she sat beside Gideon to accompany him. She watched as he drank the soup and said, “I bet the Garretts are in a mess now, with Old Master Garrett’s condition.”
Gideon let out a cold laugh.
“Not just messy but chaotic as hell.”
Nell grinned.
“The Garrett family has a lot of children. Uncle Garrett and Second Uncle Garrett have different mothers, plus they have their own factions and supporters. Naturally, the conflict between the two brothers will go on, but luckily Old Master Garrett is fine. I’m sure they’ll make the necessary arrangements for the Old Master’s funeral for the sake of the family, so that the fights and arguments won’t be too bad.”
Gideon nodded. “I hope so.”
He paused as if he had remembered something and glanced at Nell.
Nell raised her eyebrows.
“What is it?”
“Nothing.”
Gideon found it funny and chuckled before continuing. “The Grahams sent someone over too. Do you know who they sent?”
“Who?”
“Youngest Graham.”
Nell was astonished.
“I don’t think Youngest Graham dislikes Celine. They seem to get along rather well. If nothing extraordinary happens, this marriage is confirmed.”
Nell was at a loss for words.
“Youngest Graham… Does he know about Celine’s past?”
Gideon nodded. “Yes, but to him, who doesn’t have a past? Hence, he doesn’t mind. He’s just looking forward to his future with Celine. I think he has found his true love.”
Nell was amused by the phrase “true love” and did not know how to react.
“As a Young Master of the Graham family, it’s fine if he weds a formerly-married woman, but the thing is, this woman has a poor reputation. Do the Grahams approve of it?”
Gideon chuckled sardonically.
“He’s not the only son in the Graham family. Moreover, Old Master Garrett offered a 15% share of the Garrett’s Corporation as a dowry. Any man in the capital would be enticed by this offer, let alone the Grahams.”
Nell glanced at him.
“Oh? Are you enticed as well?”
Gideon paused.
He looked at her solemnly.
Then, he smiled cheerily and held her hand. “I’m only enticed by you.”
Nell was speechless.
She knew that this man was playing around!
She rolled her eyes, withdrew her hand and said, “Fine, let’s be serious. Based on what you said, is the marriage between the Garretts and the Grahams confirmed? Didn’t anyone from the Garrett family oppose Old Master Garrett’s idea of a 15% share dowry?”
Gideon thought for a moment and shook his head. “They were the ones who found the child. Ultimately, the 15% share belongs to Juliette, but she’s no longer around, so this share should be handed to her child. Unfortunately, Old Master Garrett always thought that she’s his biological granddaughter, but she’s a fraud.
“He’s still alive, thus he can make decisions regarding the shares. However, I wonder who’ll get the share once he’s gone. Till then, there’ll be a fight to the death for it. To sum up, the Garrett family is like a mud pool and the Graham family will face a sticky end once they get involved with the former.”
Nell nodded approvingly.
They chatted for a while, then retired to bed late at night.
The Garrett family.
Old Master Garrett quickly stopped himself from talking further, but deep down, he sighed.
This child was too kind. He wondered how much she had been through before she became as sensitive as this.
He exhaled and switched the subject.
“Celine, what do you think of Young Master Graham who came over tonight?”
Celine froze.
She regarded him with a pair of doe eyes in a puzzled manner.
The Old Master narrowed his eyes and smiled affectionately. “The Grahams are an elite family in the capital city, just like us, Garretts. They have been around for more than a hundred years. When their Old Master was still alive, he was Grandpa’s best friend. Furthermore, Youngest Graham is a nice man with a cheerful and honest disposition, unlike those playboys in other families. If you marry him, he’ll definitely take care of you and I feel at ease. What do you think?”
Celine blushed and lowered her head bashfully. She wanted to bury her head in the ground.
“I… I don’t know.”
Old Master Garrett roared with laughter.
“Don’t be shy. Boys and girls get married when they grow up, it’s perfectly normal!”
Celine forced herself to smile.
“Grandpa, I’m not ready for marriage yet.”
Old Master Garrett was surprised and frowned.
“Why? Don’t you like him? Or do you have someone else in mind?”
Celine waved a hand. “No, no, I, I…”
She bit her lip and found it difficult to express herself. Her eyes were red and teary, making her look pitiful. Those who saw her in this state would want to protect her.
Old Master Garrett could not stop himself from asking, “Do you have any other concerns?”
