With a smile on Owen’s lips, he pushed the door open and went in. He saw a girl in a white sweater standing by the window, her thoughts hidden from him.
He coughed softly and walked over. “What’s wrong?”
Tara jumped but did not turn around.
She only shook her head and said, “Nothing.”
Owen hesitated for a moment before asking, “Why are you unhappy? Is it because…”
He paused. Seeing her remaining silent, he hesitated for a moment longer before saying, “Are you still angry about last night?”
The words cause Tara to jolt. Her expression suddenly shifted.
Owen had been paying close attention to her. His heart could not help but sink at the change of her expression.
He quickly explained, “I really didn’t mean it. I was drugged and couldn’t control myself. Although I know I can’t get your forgiveness with this reason, I still have to explain it to you.”
When he finished speaking, Tara suddenly turned around and looked at him. Her gaze was very complicated.
She only spoke after a pause, “What you mean is that you unintentionally made a mistake that night? If you hadn’t been drugged, you’d never do something like that, so you’re here today to apologize to me?”
Owen nodded.
A dark light flashed in the girl’s eyes as if she was hurt and disappointed.
She forced a smile and said, “Alright, I get it now. I forgive you.”
Owen was slightly stunned, not thinking that she would forgive him so simply. He stood there at a loss for words.
Before coming here, he played out many possible scenarios on how she would react, how she would blame him or whether she would yell at him. If she was too bothered, then he would go tell his family. He would even give her the position of Mrs. Jackman if she wanted it.
However, all she said was “I forgive you.”
Just like that...
Owen stood there in silence, feeling his heart tighten and in strange discomfort.
On the other hand, Tara felt her heart beat like thunder as if it was about to jump out of her chest.
The man beside her simply stood silently. What was he thinking? Why was he not leaving?
At last, she could not help but said, “You’ve apologized and I’ve forgiven you. Is there anything else you need?”
Owen stalled and looked at her, not knowing where to start.
His silence caused Tara’s nose to sour slightly and her heart sank further.
He did not like her. To him, what happened last night was nothing more than an unintentional mistake that was over and done with.
He came to apologize to her, hoping that she would forgive him, and then what? The two would then go their separate ways and never see each other again! Why else would he be silent?
The girl’s eyes gradually grew red. Owen looked at her reddened eyes and his heart clenched again, making him feel very stifled and uncomfortable.
Was she blaming him? Although she said she had forgiven him, her heart must have hated him!
After all, it was her first time! To be inexplicably taken by a man she did not even know that well, her heart must despise him.
He sighed softly. The words he wanted to say could not come out because of the tears that suddenly fell from her eyes.
Seeing that there was still twenty days before the New Year, Nell asked Janet to think carefully about whether to stay at the capital for the New Year or to return to Jincheng.
Although her father was still unwilling to contact her, the father and daughter were dear to each other and their bond could not be discarded just like that. Who was in the right and wrong was not something that could be determined with just a single sentence.
Janet promised to think about it. She had been busy working out lately and was preparing to make a comeback after the start of the year.
Although it was a bit of a rush, if she could start work, it would at least distract her and lift her mood slightly.
Nell had no problems with her decision. However, Janet’s contract was still with Hancock Enterprise. Back then, to force her to give in, Ethan Hancock took over her contract to prevent any drama regarding her from occurring. Therefore, if Janet had planned to make a comeback, she still had to go to Hancock Enterprise sooner or later.
Although Sunny was out of the hospital, Janet was still somewhat uneasy and was nervous all day.
When Nell saw this, she made an appointment with Owen and asked him when he would be free to make a house call to give the child a general examination.
The check-up was just for show but it would put Janet’s mind at ease.
She was too nervous about the child right now and got anxious even at the wind.
Nell felt this would not work as a long-term solution.
She could understand. Janet gave birth to this child behind Ethan’s back, which was equivalent to breaking away from the Hancock family. Losing her family and not having a husband, she was just a single woman raising a child. The child was all the mental support she had.
If anything went wrong with the child, she might not be able to go on living.
Owen heard the news and rushed over that afternoon.
Owen was a professional and his stead demeanor had already won Janet’s deep trust.
Therefore, when he said that there was no problem after conducting the examination, Janet completely believed that her child had indeed recovered.
