Janet was dumbfounded and looked at him with dissatisfaction.
Although she did not want to get into the car, it was too late as this man was dominant and would not let her leave.
Was it not just sitting in a car? What was the big deal?
Therefore, she got into the car without any reluctance.
When she did not refuse anymore, only then did Liam’s expression eased and he sat in the driver’s seat.
The car cruised through the lonely road in the middle of the night with bustling night scenes on both sides of the road. Both of them sat in the car silently without saying a word.
It was already very late and Janet was slightly tired. After all, she had just given birth not long ago and she was weaker compared to others. Therefore, she felt sleepy once she got in the car.
However, it was winter now and the temperature was low at night. Even if the car’s heater was turned on, Janet, who had a weak postpartum physique, still felt cold.
She adjusted her coat, trying to wrap it tighter around her.
However, there was someone who had reacted faster than her, tossing a jacket at her.
Janet was stunned.
The jacket was Liam’s and it emitted a faint smell that belonged to him.
He held onto the steering wheel and did not look at her. He still had the stern expression on his face.
Janet felt a slight warmth in her heart and after a few months of cold war, it was slowly warming up again.
She coughed uncomfortably but did not refuse, putting the jacket around herself and said vaguely, “Thank you.”
Liam did not reply to her.
Nonetheless, his icy face had softened.
The atmosphere in the car had eased subtly.
Although both of them were not talking, it was obvious that the ambiance was not as cold as when they first got into the car.
Janet did not like how this felt.
This feeling made her feel out of control. It felt like something that she had tried before, hoping that being brave would bring her unexpected gains but gave her bruises instead.
Therefore, she was unwilling to be involved again and only wanted to live in peace with Sunny for the rest of her life.
Those feelings were buried on that hopeless night more than half a year ago.
She looked out the window and at that moment, Liam’s phone rang.
She turned to look at him as he frowned and answered the call.
He did not say much and only responded with a very cold attitude.
Janet could not guess who was on the call but she was not concerned as it was none of her business.
Liam ended the call quickly.
He was silent for a while, then suddenly said, “Bring Sunny and follow me to the Griffin family a few days later.”
Janet’s eyes twitched when she heard that.
The drowsiness that had originally risen was swept away.
She looked at Liam warily and asked coldly, “What do you mean?”
Liam frowned and seemed to be choosing his words. After a while, he answered, “The family called and they wished to see the child.”
“No!”
Janet refused without even thinking.
The atmosphere in the car fell into cold silence again.
Then, Liam’s face turned gloomy.
Janet wrapped her hands around her shoulders and looked out the window, not saying another word.
After a long while, Liam said, “I’ve already agreed to it, it must happen.”
“What makes you think so?”
Janet was furious.
…
When Janet reached home, it was almost 1:00 a.m.
It was overwhelming for her to take care of the child alone.
So, when she returned to the country and with Nell’s help, she hired a maternity matron.
The child was being taken care of by the maternity matron since she had to go out.
When she reached home, the child was already asleep.
Janet pushed open the door lightly and saw the baby sleeping soundly on the bed.
For the convenience of feeding, there was a downlight that was switched on throughout the night.
At that moment when the light shone down, it made the room warm and quiet.
Janet looked at the baby in the crib sleeping soundly. He looked adorable with his fists tightly clenched.
Her heart instantly fused into one and could not help kissing the child’s cheek.
However, as soon as she touched the child's forehead, she suddenly felt something was wrong.
The child’s temperature was surprisingly high and it was like touching a ball of burning coal.
At first, Janet thought that her body was cold as she had just gotten in from outside thus she felt that the little bundle was hot.
Nevertheless, when she covered her face and touched the baby’s forehead with hers, he was still hot.
Janet’s face changed!
“Karen, Karen wake up!”
She woke the maternity matron who was sleeping beside and ran out to get the thermometer.
Karen, the maternity matron, still oblivious to what was happening, opened her eyes in a daze and asked, “Ms. Hancock, you’re home, what is it?”
Janet looked gloomy. “Sunny seems to be having a fever.”
