Gideon had expected that Jean would give in.

He made an appointment with her to visit the Leith Residence at night.

Nell would head there first to comfort the Old Madam and give Gideon and Nell some time to brace themselves.

That night, the three of them arrived at the Leith Residence.

When the Old Madam got wind of this issue, she was naturally pissed.

Before Jean came over, she threw a huge fit and smashed a few teacups.

Nell consoled her, “Luckily, Auntie told us all about this matter, so it isn’t too late to salvage the situation. Don’t be angry, Grandma. Ultimately, this issue occurred out of spite. We mustn’t act impulsively and make matters worse. It’s crucial to take a step back and analyze the situation.”

The Old Madam sighed.

“I understand, don’t worry. I have emotional outbursts too, and it’s not like I can do anything about her. I promise I won’t scold her once she arrives.”

It was just a verbal promise. When Jean arrived, the Old Madam could not stop herself from berating her.

Jean knew she was in the wrong and kept quiet while the Old Madam raged on.

Once she was done, the Old Madam felt a little bit better and began to listen to Jean’s side of the story.

Simply put, it was a simple matter.

Any sane person could see that Jean had been set up and swindled.

Unfortunately, she was oblivious to this fact and did not leave any evidence. Moreover, she purchased each raw stone on her own.

Unless desperate measures were utilized, it was difficult to prove that that man had been cheating her.

The Leith family had a lot of tactics up their sleeves, but it was a desperate time now. Besides, they could get themselves a lot of unwanted attention if they did anything drastic.

If Steven Palmer could achieve success by organizing stone-betting events in the capital city, it meant that he had someone powerful backing him up. Based on Matthew’s findings, Steven had ties to the Graham family, so his backbone could most likely be the Grahams.

No one dared to act hastily when both the Leith and Graham families were involved.

Gideon thought and suggested, “I can send someone to settle this issue but you’d better not make your presence known in the capital, Auntie, in case things get complicated.”

Jean was opposed to this.

“Deon, are you trying to get rid of me? I’m not going anywhere. I want to stay in the capital!”

The Old Madam yelled, “Stop whining! We’re trying to clean up your mess here! Do you think anyone is willing to take care of this issue for you?”

Jean lowered her head when she got yelled at.

After that, she whimpered. “Alright, I’ll head to Country F.”

“No!”

The Old Madam roared and glared at her.

“Don’t even think about it! Tomorrow, book a flight to Country M and go to your Aunt Starks. I’ll send someone to watch over you and don’t you dare get around! As long as this issue isn’t settled, you aren’t allowed to go anywhere else.”

Jean shouted angrily.

“Mom, I’m already in my thirties and no longer a three-year-old. Are you going to treat me like a child?”

The Old Madam scoffed.

“Judging by your IQ, you’re no different from a three-year-old.”

Jean was speechless.

Since the Old Madam had made a decision, no one opposed her.

“I’ve never harbored such thoughts.”

“Ha, who are you lying to? Simply put, you don’t like the fact that I don’t approve of your relationship with Deon. I’ve always thought that Deon and Stephanie would make a better couple. I bet you feel uncomfortable, don’t you?

“And did you know that Deon and Stephanie used to be lovers? They grew up together and knew each other since they were children, so they had a really close bond. Look at you, butting in between them. What’s the meaning of it?”

Nell took in a deep breath.

She felt rather annoyed.

It was fine if you were told about something for the first time.

However, when you were repeatedly told about the same issue, it was irritating and you would lack the patience to listen to it again.

She eyed Jean and lowered her voice, “Since you say so, Auntie, let me ask you something. If they had such a close bond, why did Deon marry me instead of her?”

Jean was caught off guard.

Nell sniggered.

“Auntie, I don’t understand why you dislike me so much. I’m perfectly aware that I’ve never shown you any animosity. When I was impolite toward you, it was because you started it first.

“I know you treat Gideon well. When his parents were gone, you cared for him all these years. I’ve never doubted your relationship, but you should understand that, in the future, I’m the one who will accompany him in his old age and not you.

“No matter how close family members are to each other, they’ll become estranged over time as a result of disappointments and arguments. I don’t want you to feel remorse when you have completely strained the bond between you and Gideon.

“Therefore, heed my advice, Auntie. If you want to have a better life ahead, stop what you’re doing and watch your actions! After all, Gideon will be the leader of the Leith family and as his wife, I’ll be the true mistress of the Leiths.”

When she finished speaking, she noticed the rage and resentment on Jean’s face. She was so enraged that she was about to faint. Thus, Nell waved a hand to summon a maid.

“Auntie isn’t feeling well. Please send her to her room.”
