Nell grew even more surprised.
She wanted to refuse immediately, but her eyes suddenly caught sight of the other lounge not far away. Looking around again, she agreed.
“Alright, come in!”
Jason followed her into the lounge.
Nell had no intention of exchanging pleasantries with him. Once inside, she leaned against the edge of the table and folded her arms across her chest. She looked at him and cut straight to the chase. “What did you want to talk to me about?”
Her bluntness made Jason somewhat cramped.
For some reason, the words that he had rehearsed back and forth in his heart countless times were unable to come out when faced with her clear and cold eyes.
After a moment, he forced a smile. “It’s nothing. It’s just that it’s been a long time since we talked seriously, so I just wanted to have a casual conversation.”
Nell curled her lips, but there was no smile in her eyes.
“I’m really sorry, but I’m not Celine, so I have no interest in married people. Since there’s nothing else you want, then there’s no need to talk anymore.”
As she spoke, she straightened and walked out.
Jason’s heart panicked and he hurriedly reached out to pull her back.
“Wait.”
Nell frowned.
A subconscious repulsion and nausea instantly welled up. She flung off his hand and took two steps back, looking at him with cold eyes.
Jason’s hand froze in the air.
He remained stunned when he saw Nell’s expression twist. She pulled out a silk handkerchief from her bag and wiped the wrist he had just held before casually throwing it into the trash can beside her.
“If you want to say something, then just say it. Don’t get touchy!”
Jason’s throat clogged up, suddenly feeling extremely painful.
It was like something hard was crushing his heart. It was dull and muffled yet not overly intense, making it impossible for him to speak.
He pursed his lips and said softly after a few seconds. “Alright, I’ll be straightforward.”
Nell remained expressionless and did not even look at him.
Although Jason’s heart felt uncomfortable, he knew that he was simply reaping the seeds he sowed and that he was not in a position to say anything.
Thus, he went straight to the point. “I went to the capital a few days ago.”
Nell raised her eyebrows. “What has that got to do with me?”
Jason replied in a deep voice, “Don’t rush. Can you guess who I met?”
Nell was not interested in guessing anything about him, so she simply said, “No.”
Jason stalled.
The undisguised rejection and impatience in the woman’s attitude made the stifling pain he felt in his heart grow stronger.
He took a deep breath and said seriously, “I met Gideon Leith.”
Nell paused.
“I saw with my own eyes that he was with a little girl of four or five years old, and that child called him daddy. I think you should understand what that means, right?”
Nell was completely stunned.
Seeing her finally react, Jason was slightly relieved and continued, “I didn’t want to tell you this, but I really don’t want to see you get cheated. Gideon Leith isn’t a good man. Even if you’re with him, you won’t have a happy ending.
“He even dared to lie to you about having a child. You don’t know what other things he’s hiding from you. Nelly, you have to think carefully. This has to do with the rest of your life. You can’t treat it like a joke.”
Nell finally reacted after a few seconds.
She looked at Jason in confusion. “Who said that he’s lying to me?”
Jason grew bitter. “Are you still unwilling to believe me? He has a child…”
“Fine, even if you don’t hate him for hiding things from you, that child is not your own! Have you ever thought about how difficult it would be for you to get along with each other in the future? Shouldn’t you know how difficult it is to be a stepmother?”
Nell sneered.
“Thanks for your concern, but don’t worry. Lizzy likes me very much, and I like her very much too. I don’t think it’s hard for us to get along at all!”
Jason. “...”
He was so angry he wanted to vomit blood.
“Nell, wake up. Even if she likes you now, she still has her own biological mother!
“Have you ever thought that no matter how close Gideon Leith and you are now, he once loved another woman and had a child with that woman.
“Since that woman isn’t here now, you can be a happy family and live well together, but what if she comes back?
“Can you be sure that a man like Gideon Leith would not leave a place in his heart for the woman he willingly let give birth to his child?
“If they’re still in love and that woman comes back one day, will that child still like you as much as she does now? Do you really think you can replace her biological mother? Do you really think you can take the place in Gideon Leith’s heart that belongs to that woman?”
Nell’s finger twitched.
She looked at him expressionlessly.
Jason panted and said bitterly, “Nell, don’t be stupid. He’s not suitable for you at all! Don’t be a moth that flies into the fire. Not only will you fail to get what you want, but you’ll also end up with bruises and nothing else! This is the most sincere advice I can give you!”
Nell was silent for a moment.
After a moment, she said casually. “Oh, okay.”
Jason. “???”
‘Could your response be any colder?’
Nell forced her lips to smile.
“Jason Morton, you’re really quite strange.”
