A brief moment later, Celine forced a smile and said, “It’s just a passing comment. Why are you getting worked up for? The truth will speak for itself if you’ve never done it. There’s no need to fear that you’ll be wrongly accused.”
Nell smirked. “There’s the thing about public opinion. Throw enough mud on the wall and some of it will stick. I don’t really care what other people think as long as you trust that I’m not that kind of person.”
Celine could not fathom the meaning behind her words.
What did she mean by trusting she was not that kind of person?
When did Nell Jennings concern herself with her opinion?
Though fleering in her mind, Celine remained unperturbed on the surface.
The crossfire seemed to have come to an end.
Nell took a seat to get ready for makeup and styling while Celine already had her hair done by then due to earlier shoots today. She exited the room with Kylie’s help.
Nell secretly tipped Nancy, who was standing in a corner, the wink.
Taking the cue, Nancy turned and followed them out.
On set, the props were ready to go. Although Tim was not in the greatest mood after last night’s set up, he still fulfilled his duty and sat behind the camera.
Standing center stage, Celine listened to the martial arts instructor describing the next moves. On another side stood a few masked men in black. They played black-robed assassins in the scene.
After the martial art instructor was through, the cameras started rolling following a loud call for action.
Kylie glanced around to confirm no one was paying attention to her before calmly slipping away.
With numerous people on the set, it was quite a chaos. Kylie passed through the crowd and did not stop for a moment even when she reached outside the shooting site. Instead, she made a beeline toward the hotel.
Stalking from a distance, Nancy carefully traced her footsteps.
It was only a seven to eight-minute journey on foot between the hotel and the set. Once she reached the hotel, Kylie headed up to the second floor and sought a male attendant in a corner.
“Where is it?”
“What ‘it’?” The other party was confused.
“The spiked food and drinks. Didn’t you take them out when you tidied up the room this morning?”
The other party was pushed to further perplexity.
“I didn’t see any leftover food or drinks!”
Color washed off Kylie’s face.
“Weren’t you assigned to clean up the room?”
“Yes, I cleaned the room but I didn’t see any leftovers. They must’ve finished it!”
“That’s impossible. Even if it was finished, the box should be around. Did you see a box?”
The attendant shook his head.
Kylie turned white as a sheet.
The other party gave it a thought. Realizing that there was something fishy about the matter, his complexion shared the same shade of color. He whispered, “Could... They have noticed something!”
“Nonsense!”
Unable to get her hands on the thing, Kylie stomped her foot several times out of frustration. “What do I do? If Sister Celine finds out that it isn’t retrieved, I’ll never hear the end of it!”
“Why don’t you tell her that the thing is thrown away? She’ll never know.”
“No, it was already gone by the time you entered the room. Director Coombs and Nell must’ve hidden it. If I were to lie to her saying that it has been retrieved and Director Coombs, in turn, presents it, Sister Celine will never let me see the light of day again!”
The attendant’s face twisted into a grimace.
A while later, he remarked in displeasure. “If I have a say in this, you shouldn’t have helped her in this! You’ll just feel guilty engaging in an immoral act!”
With her head hung low, Kylie kept to herself as she walked along.
Although Celine resided in the hotel, she, as a measly assistant, had no right to stay there.
The filming had a tight budget. With the best treatment reserved for the key actors and director, the remaining crew took accommodation in a neighboring motel.
Kylie was walking to the motel when suddenly, a looming figure appeared in her line of vision, stopping her in her tracks.
She lifted her head and saw Nancy’s solemn face.
...
After hair and makeup, Nell leisurely took paces to the set.
Celine’s break was over. The next scene was the duo sharing the stage.
The protagonist and supporting character played sworn enemies in the drama. Naturally, there were a lot of scenes where they came face to face with each other.
In the beginning, everybody was worried that Nell, as the female lead and a newbie to acting, would be outshone by Celine.
The protagonist of the series had a rather domineering and conniving character. Should she be overshone by the supporting role, the visual effects may be greatly impacted.
Similarly, the view ratings may possibly fall short as well.
Nonetheless, Nell did not let anyone down with her praise-worthy performance.
Celine might have made a handful of mistakes but she still had a solid foundation. Though not on par with excellency, she carried herself well.
With the scandal involving Nell going viral online, the little-known shoot managed to gain some popularity.
Hence, the media were coming this afternoon to catch the latest news. Having been notified, Tim declined to comment on the arrangement.
His focus was solely on the shoot. It was out of his hands nor did he care about anything else.
