Spoiled by the President novel Chapter 109

Janet shook her head.

“I’m fine. Don’t call the police.”

She took a deep breath as if trying hard to calm herself down.

“Nelly, can you get me my clothes, please?”

Nell held her gaze with quiet intensity.

She knew that an average person would not dare to treat Janet so horribly, given the latter’s family background. Besides, she was always protected by bodyguards thus no scoundrel could approach her easily.

Perhaps… There was something more to this unfortunate incident.

Without pressing further, she turned around to gather Janet’s clothes. Then, she assisted the latter to freshen up in the bathroom before leaving the hotel room.

Leith Garden.

Aunt Joyce was over the moon when Nell returned home with another girl that appeared on television before.

“Aunt Joyce, this is my friend, Janet. She might be staying with us for a couple of days. Please prepare some lightly seasoned supper and bring it upstairs.”

“Ah, sure.”

Nell assisted Janet into the room.

“Nelly, I’d like to take a bath.”

“Alright.”

No one had stayed in the guestroom before but it was always equipped with the essential products.

Nell filled the bath and left her friend alone. She stepped out of the room and instructed Aunt Joyce to get the doctor.

A female doctor had been hired as one of the family doctors since her moving into Leith Garden. Although it was almost Chinese New Year, the doctor was based in Jincheng and lived not far from them. It was not too much of a hassle for the doctor to come over.

Nell arranged for Janet to be examined by the doctor after the bath.

“We know this doctor well. Don’t worry! No one will hear about this.”

Nell explained upon sensing Janet’s concerned gaze.

Janet finally let her guard down. The doctor instructed her to remove her clothes. Nell, who could not bring herself to watch the process, turned around to leave the room.

About ten minutes later, the doctor walked out of the room to announce the end of the inspection.

Nell asked about her friend’s condition. She was told about the wounds and a tear in Janet's private area. No further questions were asked since Nell had already gathered enough information. The doctor was dismissed after prescribing some medicine.

She returned to the guestroom once more to find Janet already dressed, staring out to the window with her back resting against the bed frame.

“What actually happened? Can you tell me now?”

“Nelly, I don’t want to talk about it.”

She looked rather pale and her eyes appeared dazed, even her voice was fleeting. To say she was weak was an understatement.

Nell furrowed her brows.

“I’m starving. Is there any food?”

As if sensing the tension in the air, Janet turned to flash a faint smile at Nell.

The latter felt a surge of frustration coursing through her. “Hungry? At least that means you’re still far from being dead.”

Despite the angry comment, she went downstairs personally to deliver the supper prepared by Aunt Joyce.

Janet was knackered by the time she finished the meal.

Nell could not bring herself to bother the woman. The latter must have a good reason to keep the misfortune to herself.

Albeit still annoyed, she allowed the other person to rest without pressing further.

The next morning.

It was the thirtieth day of the twelfth month of the lunar calendar. Gideon called to notify her that he would be home by afternoon to spend Chinese New Year together.

This caught Nell by surprise. The man mentioned before that he would go to the capital. She thought he would stay there for the festive season as well.

She had led a life of vagrancy in the past few years, thus, no relatives or friends were waiting for her even though she had returned home. Jason did not accompany her during the festive season as he normally headed home to spend time with the Mortons. This had led her to feel less enthusiastic about Chinese New Year.

She had always thought being alone was not a big deal.

It finally occurred to her that she must have been too accustomed to that!

Aunt Joyce was naturally delighted about Gideon’s return. She cooked more dishes and even prepared alcohol. It was going to be a lovely dinner tonight.

The man came home at 5:00 pm.

His sharp-eye noticed the unfamiliar shoes positioned by the door and quickly realized that they had a guest.

Most of her bruises were hidden beneath the high-neck knitted top. The others probably thought she was no different from usual apart from maybe looking a little bit paler.

There was not much Nell could do if Janet insisted on not telling her the truth.

The Chairman of Hancock Enterprise, Ethan Hancock, called this afternoon. Nell picked up some quarreling when she passed by the guest room.

This must be the reason that Janet refused to return home.

She could only let things slide albeit extremely concerned.

It was Chinese New Year’s Eve. Fireworks were forbidden in the city but the law was more lenient in the suburbs.

Nell thought of taking a stroll to aid digestion after dinner. Gideon decided to take her to Water Birch Garden in the suburbs to watch the firework show. Janet, who was too lazy to move about, preferred sleeping in her room instead.

The two of them arrived at the destination after a drive. The place was crowded.

Gideon had made a reservation in the revolving restaurant on the top floor. Not only could they enjoy the firework show from here but also observe the heavy traffic along the highway on this big night. Those two would create a unique sight.

“Sir, Madam, your drinks are here.”

A server approached their table with a serving tray. Nell, who was looking out to the window, did not notice that.

She felt something touching the tip of her fingers when she extended her arm to receive the drinks.

This surprised her. She was met with the server’s meaningful gaze when she darted her head around.

Emotions chased across her features in quick succession.

Fortunately, Gideon was speaking on the phone at this moment and had no idea of what was going on.

She retrieved her arm immediately. The tip of her fingers were still shaking after the server left respectfully.

“Excuse me, I need to use the bathroom.”

Nell said to Gideon while rising to her feet.

It was only until behind the closed bathroom door that she unfolded the note in her hand.

Several words were scribbled across the paper in sloppy handwriting. “Seven, it’s been a while!”

A shadow veiled her features.

It was him?
