Baron immediately glared at him. “Think about your reputation at the time. Of course I wouldn’t let my sister get close to you!”

Eddie nodded. “I know. It was my fault.” He understood Baron’s reasoning.

“Good that you know.” Baron’s tone softened considerably.

“Yeah, it hurts.” Vicki nodded honestly.

Eddie lowered his head and gently blew on the bandage, his breath warm against the gauze.

Seeing how worried he was, Vicki smiled, “Actually, it’s not that bad.”

Eddie pulled her closer. “Vicki, I won’t let anything hurt you ever again.”

“Okay.” Vicki leaned into his shoulder, a satisfied smile spreading across her face.
