Chapter 523
Jeremy, still on his knees, roared, “Austin,
te dreaming!” Austin wanted to take over the Fraser family! That would never happen
Austin remained impassive. “Oh? Then here are your options. One, hand the Fraser family over willingly, and I might keep you. Two, watch as acquite Fraser Group until you get kicked out of here.”
“Acquire Fraser Group?” Edmund scoffed, abandoning any pretense of negotiation. “It’s laughable, Austin. Don’t think hiring a few dozen bodyguards makes you capable of forcing me to hand over Fraser Group,”
Edmund thought, ‘I built Fraser Group. It’s thriving
now, one of the most powerful in Viremont. And Austin thinks it can be acquired? What a joke!
Austin showed a derisive smirk. He didn’t bother. further. “We’ll see.”
Margot studied his unshakable confidence, unease creeping in. She couldn’t help thinking, ‘Where has Austin been these past weeks? What transformed him? How could he afford these bodyguards? We’d better be careful before figuring out his true strength!
Forcing a smile, she said gently, “Aus, let’s not be hastu
We’re
family-”
“Family?” Austin’s glacial stare cut Margot off. “Did you mistake attempted murder for kinship? Do you remember those accidents you arranged? And you still think we’re family?”
Margot’s mouth snapped shut. She had indeed wanted Austin gone. If he were dead, Samuel would have no competition. But she had always been careful. How had he seen through everything?
“Enough. Let’s see this bastard try!” Jeremy snarled. As for that nonsense about acquiring Fraser Group, he didn’t believe it at all. It was an absolute delusion.
Austin smiled, offering no rebuttal, “Let them go.”
The moment Samuel broke free, he lunged forward, ready to beat Austin. But Vincent took him down with a single move.
“Stay put,” Vincent warned.
Samuel clenched his jaw, glaring at Vincent’s robust frame. He thought, ‘This humiliation burns today, but I’ll return it a hundred fold one day. That bastard dares to stand above me? Ridiculous!‘
Jeremy finally staggered to his feet. His face was swollen and battered.
Margot rushed to support him, her voice trembling. “Darling.”
Edmund shook his head at the sight, muttering, “What a disgrace for
our
family.”
Austin tightened his grip around the locket, his tone devoid of emotion. “You have three days to decide. If no answer comes by then, I’ll acquire Fraser Group.”
Edmund and the others exchanged glances, each reading the same doubt in the other’s eyes. None of them believed Austin was capable,
With that, Austin turned to Cameron, who had witnessed everything in silence. “Cam, let’s go.”
Cameron nodded. She thought, ‘So Austin wanted me here to witness.”
Surrounded by bodyguards, she and Austin strode out of Fraser Villa.
The four members of the Fraser family watched their backs, fury raging inside their chests.
Edmund glanced at Jeremy. “Go take care of your face first.” It looked so terrible.

Jeremy, expression thunderous, returned to the living room with Margot’s help.
Samuel had also been slapped, but his face wasn’t as swollen as Jeremy’s.
Edmund ordered, “Samuel, find out where Austin has been these past weeks.”
Samuel gritted his teeth. “I will.” Even without command, he would have hunted down every detail.
But before they could act, an orange glow erupted beyond the windows. Flames, starting from the main gate, engulfed the villa.
Austin’s men had knocked out all the staff and dragged them a mile away. By the time Samuel and his family noticed, the fire had reached the hall, its heat unbearable on the summer night.
“Fire! Run!” Samuel roared.
Jeremy, ice pack pressed on his cheeks, instinctively tried to check the situation, but Margot yanked him back. She shouted, “It’s spreading, Go!”
Samuel grabbed Edmund. “Grandpa, we have to go through the back door.” Extinguishing the big fire was impossible.
Yet, just then, Margot turned toward the stairs. “You guys go ahead! I’ll be right behind.”
“Mom, what are you doing?” Samuel dropped Edmund immediately to chase her.
Margot’s voice was trembling. “There are jewelry and gold bars in the safe. I must get them.”
“Are you insane? The fire is spreading. We’ll die. Go!” Samuel dragged her toward the door.
“Move!” Edmund urged anxiously.
The four of them fled through the back door, escaping the inferno just in time. They called the fire department, but by the time firefighters arrived, only smoldering ruins remained.
Watching the black smoke coil into the sky, the four of them felt the weight of their loss.
“Austin did this. That bastard!” Samuel roared, fists clenched. “I’ll tear him apart.”
“Stop.” Edmund’s cane struck the ground. “You don’t even know what cards he’s holding. Recklessness will ruin you.”
Margot nodded urgently. “Samuel, stay calm. We need a place to stay.”
Jeremy, face still swollen, grunted in agreement, “Find somewhere to stay first.”
“Austin, you’re dead,” Samuel muttered through clenched teeth.
Inside the Rolls–Royce, Cameron watched through the window as Fraser Villa burned.
Austin watched the fire, his striking mixed–race features illuminated by the glow. A satisfied smile played on his lips.
He thought, ‘Let the fire consume it all–every humiliation, every memory. I’m not the same person I used to be.’
When he turned, he happened to meet Cameron’s calm gaze. Somehow, he felt something twisted in his chest. He asked hesitantly, “Cam, do you think I’m monstrous?”
“Monstrous?” Cameron tilted her head slightly, thinking for a while. Then she shook her head. “No. Just wasteful.”
Austin blinked. “Wasteful?” He didn’t think he had wasted anything.

Cameron looked toward the burning villa. “That villa, with its prime location, could’ve sold for hundreds of millions of dollars. But you burned it all. down. What a pity.”
Austin paused for a moment. Suddenly, he understood Xander’s exasperation when calling Cameron “money–obsessed”
Laughing, Austin leaned back, “Cam, I have more wealth now than that villa could ever be worth. If you need funds, just ask.”
Cameron smiled, “I’m fine for now, thanks.”
“Whenever you need, just tell me,” Austin chuckled. In this world, Cameron was his only anchor. Everything he owned was hers.
Austin asked gently, “Cam, it’s almost eight. Are you hungry?”
“Not really,” Cameron replied.
“Dinner then. What do you feel like having?”
“Anything’s fine.”
Eventually, on their way back to Noble Vista, they stopped at a private restaurant and had dinner.
After having dinner, they returned to Noble Vista. The car pulled up roadside. Cameron got out of the car, and Austin followed suit.
Cameron stood with one hand in her pocket, the warm night breeze tousling her bangs.
“Cam, you’re stunning,” Austin murmured, unable to tear his gaze away.
“You too,” Cameron chuckled. “Where are you staying now?” Fraser Villa was ashes now.
“Noble Vista.” Seeing her puzzled look, Austin added, “I bought a unit here.”
Cameron nodded, then glanced at the group of bodyguards behind him. “And them?”
“They’ll stay at a hotel,” Austin said.
Cameron gave a slight nod and turned toward Noble Vista.
Austin moved to follow, but Vincent intercepted him. “Sir.”
Pausing, Austin raised a brow. “What’s up?”
Vincent stepped forward. “With the Fraser family as enemies now, you’re a walking target. Living alone at Noble Vista is dangerous. You need round–the- clock protection.”
Austin shrugged. “Fine. Let the guards wait at my place.”
Vincent hesitated. “I mean twenty–four–hour personal security, sir.”
Austin glanced at Cameron’s retreating figure. In the end, he stayed put, pulling out his phone to text her: [Goodnight.]
Cameron replied right away. She reached her building’s courtyard and immediately spotted Elijah lounging on a bench.
“Elijah?” she called. “What are you doing here?“/
Hearing her voice, Elijah looked up, his eyes fuckering with both surprise and relief. Rising, he dusted off his jeans. “Just took a walk after dinner. Got tired, so I sat down for a bit.”
“Want to come up?”
Chapter 523
“Sure.”
Cameron shrugged. She thought, ‘Uh, it’s just a polite offer. Well, it’s early. We shared a dorm for three months. What’s a few more hours?”
They headed upstairs. Before Cameron could even offer water, her phone buzzed. She took it out and saw the caller ID. It was William. She was puzzled, thinking, ‘Why would Mr. Drake be calling me this late?‘
Although she was curious, she answered the call right away. “Hello, Mr. Drake.”
“Cameron, get to school immediately.” William’s voice crackled with urgency through the phone.
“Why?” Cameron asked.
“SAT scores drop at midnight,” William replied excitedly.
Cameron had forgotten about the score release. She epulted hon ay aka that over two hours from now
“Two hours fly by.” William insisted. “Come to my office now. I’ll wait for you there.”
Cameron stared at the phone for a moment.
Elijah whispered, “What’s wrong?”
Covering the mic, Cameron explained, “William wants me at school for the score release.”
“I’ll come with you,” Elijah offered.
After a beat, Cameron nodded and spoke into the phone, “Okay, I’m on my way.”
“Hurry up,” William urged.
“And Elijah’s coming too.”
“Fine, just hurry.”
