She's out of Your League Now (Millie and Winston) novel Chapter 316

Chapter 316

Millie frowned. Could Lainey be considering evaluating her performance to see if she was fit for a promotion to deputy chief

*Dr. Quinn, it’s a little too fast, don’t you think?Millie asked the question she had been thinking about

Lainey paused briefly, unsure what Millie meant

The deputy chief position,Millie joked

Lainey glared at her and retorted, Dream on! With your qualifications, you’re nowhere near that position.”

Millie immediately burst into laughter

Right then, someone opened the clinic door. Millie was about to ask for the files when she heard

familiar voice

Dr. Quino, I’m here for a followup.”

Millie looked up and saw it was none other than Selma

Grandma?Millie exclaimed in surprise

Selma was equally astonished. Mills, you’re here!”

Millie nodded and asked, Are you not feeling well?”

I’m here for a followup,” answered Selma

By yourself?”

They’re busy, so I came alone,Selma replied with a smile

Millie helped her into a chair, sighing as she remarked, They should be more considerate. How could they let you come alone for your checkup? It’ll be a hassle managing all these tests by yourself.”

In an instant, Selma looked up at her. Will you accompany me then?”

Grandma, I’m at work,Millie responded with a resigned tone

Selma immediately turned to Lainey. While the latter was arranging the tests, she suddenly felt an intense gaze on her

Not wanting to bother Lainey or complicate things, Millie said, Grandma, I’m really working at the

moment.”

Mills, you’ve turned me down again!Selma huffed, clearly upset

She had previously invited Millie to join her for a tea party, but Millie declined. This time, when Selma asked her to accompany her for a checkup, Millie turned her down again

Millie was rendered speechless. However, Lainey cleared her throat lightly and said, Go on, keep her company. It really is a hassle for her to go through everything alone.”

Thank you, Dr. Quinn! Selma said gratefully, her face lighting up with a smile

And so, Millie had no choice but to comply.

After Lainey called Vanessa down, Millie accompanied Selma for her checkup

Selma was in her 70s. Yet, aside from her heart condition, she was in perfect health. She always exuded an air of elegance, as if every dress she wore had been specially tailored for her

Unlike Layla, who was always stern and authoritative, Selma radiated warmth and friendliness. Her presence was genuinely kind and downtoearth

Take a seat, Grandma. I’ll go take care of the payment,Millie said while supporting Selma

Selma watched as Millie busily attended to everything. She couldn’t help but admire her. It was a shame that Winston had been so foolish to lose such a great wife

Mills, would you come home with me for lunch while we wait for the results?Selma asked, linking her arm with Millie’s. I’ll cook for you.”

Grandma, I’ll have lunch in the cafeteria. You should head home after your checkup. I’ll collect the results and will let you know if there’s anything worth noting. If everything’s fine, you don’t need to come over. There’s no need to trouble yourself.”

While they talked, Millie was going to accompany Selma to get her blood drawn

Selma sighed and asked, Mills, are you trying to distance yourself from me?”

Of course not, Grandma,Millie answered helplessly

But I feel like we’ve grown apart,Selma responded, her voice tinged with sadness. We used to enjoy beauty treatments, shopping, and movies together. You’d always get me ice cream, too.”

Grandma, ILet’s just get your blood test done first.”

But Selma stubbornly refused and remained seated on the chair. Wearing a pitiful expression, she looked at Millie. It was clear she hoped Millie would join her for lunch at home

Millie sighed, knowing she couldn’t turn her down. Alright, Grandma. I’ll go home with you for lunch. Can we go and get your blood drawn now?”

Finally, Selma broke into a smile. Then, she obediently went with Millie to finish the rest of her checkup
