Lizetta turned to look at Kimberley and smiled.
Actually, there was no need to help. For a family dinner like this, Lizetta didn't need to do any actual cooking; she just had to give the chef some instructions.
Since it was Kimberley's first time at the house, there was even less reason for her to lift a finger.
But Lizetta noticed her slightly uncomfortable expression and knew she just felt a bit awkward sitting in the living room. She didn't point it out, just smiled and held out her hand.
"Sure thing. I was just wondering what Candy likes to eat. By the way, do you or Candy have any allergies?"
Seeing Lizetta reach out to her, Kimberley's face broke into a more genuine smile.
Arm in arm, the two women chatted as they walked into the kitchen.
Back in the living room.
Remington had dumped Joy onto the sofa. Joy was clearly much more interested in Candy, who was a kid like him. He crawled over to her, clapping his little hands to get her attention.
Candy stared curiously back at him. Jerome introduced him, "That's little brother Joy."
Candy blinked. "Daddy, can little brother Joy have a lollipop?"
As she spoke, she pulled out a delicate, heart-shaped lollipop from her pocket.
"Ah! Ah!"
Thinking it was a toy, Joy immediately slapped the sofa and babbled.
Jerome laughed. "Joy is too little to eat it, but he can probably give it a lick."
Candy's eyes lit up. She unwrapped the pretty paper from the lollipop and held it up to Joy's face.
"Little brother Joy, I'll let you lick Candy's treat, but you have to call me big sister!"
Joy stared at the crystal-like heart lollipop, his eyes wide with excitement, and immediately opened his mouth to take a massive bite.
"No!"
Seeing him try to swallow it instead of licking it, Candy got a fright and quickly pulled the lollipop away.
