Lizetta figured Stella must have truly hit a dead end.
However, Martin hadn't been released. Even if Stella wasn't directly involved, with Remington's power, keeping her locked up a little longer would have been effortless.
Yet, Remington didn't look the least bit surprised to see her here.
Lizetta instinctively glanced up at him. The man lowered his gaze and gave her a reassuring look.
"Remington! Remington!"
Stella kept screaming his name, weeping a river of tears.
Every reporter had their eyes glued to Remington, waiting to see how he would react. Waiting to see what choice he would make.
Would he show mercy to Stella and Martin?
One reporter, watching Stella collapse to the ground under the bodyguards' rough handling, shouted indignantly.
"Mr. Dashiell, regardless of what Martin West and his wife did, we believe it was all for his daughter. And since Ms. West was released without charge, she clearly had no part in those crimes. Hasn't she suffered enough? Don't you care about your past relationship and the fact that she saved your life?"
This reporter was the classic armchair saint—quick to judge others from a moral pedestal because the knife wasn't pressing against his own throat, basking in a false sense of superiority.
Remington parted his lips to speak, but Lizetta gently pulled him back.
No matter what Remington said about Stella, people would twist his words to make him look cold-blooded and defensive.
She stepped slightly in front of him, facing the media head-on.
Seeing him rendered mute, Lizetta prepared to continue.
Stella, slumped on the ground, realized Lizetta was dangerously articulate.
With just a few sharp rhetorical questions, she had forced everyone to think critically. The reporters were visibly swayed, their attitudes already shifting.
Panic gripped Stella. If she let Lizetta keep talking, the situation would turn irreparably against her.
She scrambled up from the pavement. "No, I—"
She tried to interject, but Lizetta had no intention of letting her disrupt the narrative.
Lizetta shot a glance at the bodyguards. One immediately stepped forward, pretending to help Stella up while actually yanking her back with a sharp, warning grip.
