His expression was gravely serious, his eyes brimming with theatrical remorse.
He had expected Jerome to stop him from swearing an oath, but Jerome just sat back and raised an amused eyebrow.
"Why stop? Make it a harsh one. Swear something truly devastating. Maybe then I'll actually believe you."
Conrad struggled to keep his mask from slipping, realizing he had backed himself into a corner.
He took a breath and forced the words out.
"I, Conrad West, swear that I genuinely want to love my only daughter, Lizetta. I want to make amends and compensate for all the fatherly love she missed out on. If I speak a single word of a lie, may I be struck by lightning and die a gruesome death!"
Internally, he scoffed. It wasn't like being struck by lightning was a realistic threat anyway.
Jerome nodded, seemingly convinced. Just as Conrad lowered his hand, Jerome smiled.
"Alright. Since you're being so sincere, I'll give you a chance."
Conrad's eyes lit up with unbridled joy.
But in the next second, Jerome slid a share transfer agreement across the desk.
"Sign this, and I'll believe your words. I'll even have someone drive you to see her."
Jerome tapped the document.
Conrad looked down, and his vision immediately swam. His throat tightened, rendering him speechless.
It was a voluntary transfer agreement. It explicitly stated that he would forfeit his entire 6% stake in the Madden Group to his only daughter, Lizetta, effective immediately.
Jerome offered him a fountain pen, but Conrad didn't reach for it.
