"Hey! What's your problem? Can you get up or not?"
Seeing that he was still completely unresponsive, her annoyance morphed into genuine concern.
Did he have a heart condition or something?
Her face paled at the thought. Just as she reached down to help him up, the man weakly propped himself up and slowly lifted his head.
He panicked. There was no way he would dare let his future boss's wife touch him!
Fearing for his life, he quickly shifted his arm, skillfully dodging her outstretched hand.
Feigning agonizing pain, he offered a weak apology. "I-I'm so sorry. It was my fault. I'm okay. Did I break your phone? I... Ahh!"
His expression was twisted in agony, and he looked entirely incapable of standing. Given his overly polite attitude, Yolanda couldn't bring herself to be angry anymore.
"Did you hurt yourself in the fall? Can you stand?"
"I'm fine... Ouch!"
The guy waved her off, but immediately clutched his leg and began howling loudly enough to draw stares from passing pedestrians.
Terrified of being recognized by the public, Yolanda hurried to quiet him.
"Stop yelling. I'll help you into the ER to get checked out."
Without giving him a choice, she bent down, hauled him to his feet, and began supporting his weight as they hobbled toward the hospital entrance.
The young guy was sweating bullets. He had been ordered to stall Ms. Yolanda, but Mr. Sterling was taking entirely too long!
He had no choice but to limp along toward the emergency room, praying his boss would show up before a doctor realized he was perfectly healthy.
Thankfully, his prayers were answered. Just as they were painfully inching their way toward the ER doors, he caught sight of a tall, athletic figure power-walking their way.
He slammed on the brakes. Yolanda looked at him in confusion.
"What's wrong?"
Meeting her clear, deeply concerned eyes, the guy felt a massive wave of guilt wash over him.
