Even when Nelson had mentioned his injury earlier, she had completely brushed it off.
And clearly, the man was throwing a subtle tantrum.
Realizing her mistake, Lizetta quickly and gently laid the sleeping Joy down on the bed, sprang to her feet, and hurried after him.
Whether intentionally or not, the man seemed to have eyes in the back of his head.
Right before she could catch him, he stepped into the bathroom and casually pulled the door shut, locking her out at the exact right moment.
Lizetta stared at the closed door in a daze, snapping back to reality only when she heard the distinct click of the lock from the inside.
Lizetta was speechless.
Oh boy. She hadn't been entirely sure before, but now there was no doubt—Remington was definitely pouting.
Lizetta found it slightly amusing, yet she felt a mix of guilt and helplessness.
She knocked on the door and asked softly.
"Can you manage on your own? Didn't you say it was hard to take your clothes off by yourself? Open the door and let me help you."
Remington's muffled, tight voice drifted through the door.
"There's no need. Go hold Joy, he needs you more. How could I ever compete with a baby for your care and attention?"
Lizetta was at a loss for words.
She had no idea when this man had mastered the art of playing the pity card, but his manipulative innocence was practically wafting through the door.
Barely able to suppress a laugh, she knocked twice more.
"Joy is very important, but Joy's daddy is just as important. Especially since he's the hero daddy who saved him. I'm so worried and heartbroken for you. If you don't let me help you change and properly check your wound, I won't be able to sleep or eat. My heart will ache so much I won't be able to breathe. I..."
Lizetta rambled on, purely feeding his ego with the sweetest words she could muster, though barely meaning a word of it.
