Nelson Madden glanced at the room behind her, and Lizetta broke into a cold sweat again.
Fortunately, her grandfather didn't seem to notice anything out of the ordinary. He looked away and asked.
"Where is he?"
Lizetta's heart skipped a beat, wondering if Nelson had caught on or not.
She braced herself and said, "He just chased Conrad out and got his clothes dirty. I told him to go to the Guest Wing to freshen up..."
She had no idea if her grandfather bought it. Her heart raced, terrified he might step inside to check or head to the Guest Wing himself.
However, Nelson just gave her a lingering look before averting his gaze.
"I see."
It sounded like he wasn't going to pry further, silently allowing Remington to use the guest facilities.
Lizetta breathed a sigh of relief, though a wave of guilt washed over her for lying.
She quickly stepped forward and linked her arm through his. "Grandpa, let me walk you back to your room so you can rest."
Nelson didn't refuse. As she walked with him, she kept her head down and murmured.
"Grandpa, I'm sorry."
"Hmm? Sorry for what?"
"I'm sorry for letting him in without your permission, even though I knew how you felt. I'm also sorry for talking back to you earlier, and..."
As she spoke, she looked up and met his aged but profoundly forgiving and affectionate eyes. She stopped in her tracks and bit her lip.
"I'm sorry for lying to you just now. He's actually not in the Guest Wing, I..."
Nelson halted as well, his deep gaze fixed on her.
Just when Lizetta thought he was furious and about to explode, Nelson reached out and gently patted her head.
"I'm not blind, nor am I getting senile. Did you really think you could fool me?"
