Lizetta didn't know whether to laugh or cry, but a sweet, fluttering warmth bloomed in her chest.
She reached up, playfully squishing Remington's face. "Alright, alright. I'll reflect on my actions. I'll repent."
Remington smirked. He released her, rolling over to lie flat on his back. Lazily resting his hands behind his head, he looked up at her with a challenging gleam in his eye.
"And where's the action to prove this repentance?"
Seeing his relentless, demanding expression, Lizetta honestly had to hand it to him.
She rolled over, swinging a leg across him, and straddled his hips.
Beneath her, Lizetta instantly felt the muscles of his abdomen go rigid with tension.
Her cheeks flushed as she leaned down to meet his gaze. The casual amusement vanished from his eyes, replaced by a dark, intense focus. It felt as though something highly combustible had been ignited in the air, ready to explode at the slightest touch.
Lizetta swept her cascading hair over her right shoulder, smiled softly, and began to lean in closer, inch by inch.
Remington's breath hitched. His large hands instinctively flew up, gripping her waist tightly as his Adam's apple bobbed.
His eyes dropped uncontrollably to her approaching, flushed lips. Just as their breaths began to mingle, the sound of a loud bang shattered the moment.
The hospital room door was violently shoved open, and Ray's massive frame barreled inside, his booming voice echoing instantly.
"Boss, Martin that old bastard... Ow! What the hell just flew into my eye? Hey, you, get over here and blow in it, quick!"
Ray cut his sentence off smoothly, tilting his head back and rubbing his eyes furiously. Exhibiting the most exaggerated, theatrical acting imaginable to prove he hadn't seen a thing, he spun on his heel, marched right back out, and perfectly clicked the door shut behind him.
Lizetta had finally worked up the courage to be bold and proactive, and now her face was burning a violent shade of crimson.
Snapping out of her daze, she tried to scramble off the bed, but the man's large hands remained clamped firmly on her waist.
