Stella looked at Remington searchingly, her confusion and shock seeming too authentic to be faked.
Remington stared her down with icy eyes. "You don't know who did it?"
Stella froze, the color draining from her face as she scrambled to explain.
"Remington, you don't think it was me, do you? This has absolutely nothing to do with my family! I didn't even know Liz was the one who got hurt until two days ago. Really, you have to believe me!"
Stella grew visibly pale, evidently terrified that Remington was going to pin the blame on her.
Her reaction genuinely didn't seem like someone who had secret ties to Eartha.
Remington had harbored suspicions that Stella bringing Ron here was Eartha's way of double-checking Lizetta's condition.
It seemed he had overthought it.
Remington looked away. "It was an accident."
Stella's eyes widened in astonishment. An accident?
She felt it couldn't possibly be that simple, but regardless of who Lizetta had offended, Stella silently thanked them.
Outwardly, she put on a mask of deep sorrow, shedding a tear.
"The misunderstandings between Liz and me haven't even been cleared up yet, and now she's..."
Stella prepared to sob, looking for all the world like they were the closest of sisters.
Remington's eyes turned freezing cold. He cut her off sharply.
"Liz is just sleeping. She'll wake up soon. Stop crying in here! Stop bringing that depressing energy in here!"
The utter disgust and loathing in his gaze cut into Stella like a knife.
