Remington's expression remained dangerously flat, entirely unbothered.
Conrad didn't seem rushed, acting as though he was absolutely certain Remington wouldn't risk alienating his future father-in-law over a mere assistant.
After a long beat, Remington's lips finally curled into a lazy smirk. "My assistant didn't say anything factually incorrect. Why should he apologize?"
Conrad's brow slammed together. Remington's gaze turned razor-sharp as he continued.
"Do you honestly view Lizetta's happiness as nothing more than a bargaining chip to threaten and manipulate others?"
Remington's question struck like a gavel.
Conrad's face froze, and Eartha hastily interjected, "You've misunderstood! Of course, we prioritize Liz's happiness. The only reason we're even considering you is because you risked everything to save her. Your assistant was just terribly out of line, and Conrad only spoke out of anger."
Remington raised an eyebrow, not confirming or denying her excuse, looking entirely bored by the prospect of arguing with her.
It was painfully clear that he viewed Eartha as entirely beneath his notice.
Eartha bit her lip hard. As fury bubbled inside her, a sliver of dark satisfaction also emerged.
This was perfect. Remington's hostility had completely wiped out whatever lingering guilt or pity Conrad might have felt for Lizetta.
Conrad grabbed Eartha's arm. "Stop wasting your breath on him. I'll have a team down here in ten minutes, and we are seeing our daughter today, no matter what."
He pulled out his phone, but before he could dial, it began to ring.
Seeing it was his own assistant, Conrad quickly answered. Just as he was about to bark an order, his assistant's panicked voice screamed through the speaker.
