Just then, Remington walked over and handed the glass of water to Cedric.
"T-Thank you, Boss."
Cedric took it, utterly overwhelmed by the gesture. Sure, when they were out on gruelling field inspections, Remington would occasionally toss him a bottle of water.
But this was entirely different. Being served water while seated while his boss waited on him? This was a once-in-a-lifetime luxury he was sure he would never experience again.
Cedric thought to himself, with the boss's ruthless personality, he must be completely whipped to follow her orders so obediently.
Wait, she wasn't even his wife anymore.
If they actually got remarried, if Lizetta told him to walk off a cliff, he would probably ask if she wanted him to do a flip on the way down.
"However what?"
Unable to get the rest of the sentence out of Cedric, Lizetta pressed him to continue.
Caught up in his internal monologue about his boss, Cedric's brain completely stalled. "However... However..."
Where was he going with this?
Lizetta smiled softly. "Don't be nervous."
She shot a look at Remington. "See? You're too intimidating normally. You act like a grumpy old man and terrify everyone into silence."
Remington felt a flash of helpless resignation but didn't utter a single word of defense. Instead, he flashed Cedric a razor-thin smile.
"Drink your water, and take your time."
The moment Cedric saw that chilling, entirely fake smile, a jolt of pure survival instinct shot up his spine. Activating full professional mode, he spat the words out.
"However, the police nearly shattered Andrea's defenses until an Officer Wade suddenly intervened and ruined the interrogation. This Wade guy is highly suspicious. Officer Tanner already has people trailing him to see if we can follow the money and yank the big fish out of the shadows."
Remington gave a curt nod, showing absolutely zero surprise or frustration at Andrea walking free.
Cedric glanced at Lizetta, then back at his boss.
He wasn't sure if he was authorized to share the next piece of news with her.
Remington shot him a look. "Spit it out."
