Shattered Illusions Love Lies and Redemption (Lizetta and Remington) novel Chapter 1050

Remington was speechless. This was incredibly frustrating. After surviving a life-and-death ordeal, the very first person his woman wanted to spend time with wasn't him! Clenching his fists, he shot Yolanda another death glare. If she weren't a woman, he would have kicked her right out the hospital window. Meeting his murderous gaze, Yolanda felt a brief flicker of intimidation, but she held her ground, mustering her courage to roll her eyes at him again. Ignoring the icy CEO, she turned back to her best friend. "Liz, does it hurt anywhere else? You have no idea... when I got the call that you were in an accident, my soul practically left my body." Yolanda chattered away, making it perfectly clear she had no intention of tactfully leaving them alone. Remington stood there stiffly, looking like a towering iceberg that was secretly an active volcano about to erupt. Lizetta peeked at him, offering a pleading, apologetic smile. The man pointed a stern finger at her, shooting her a look that clearly said I will deal with you later, before finally turning on his heel and marching out the door. The second he was gone, Yolanda exploded. "When exactly did you forgive him?! You didn't even tell me! What exactly did he do to reawaken your foolish, hopelessly romantic brain? What am I even supposed to say to you? Honestly, if it weren't for the fact that he literally saved your life this time, I would have slapped him across the face! Why does he only ever bring disaster into your life?" Lizetta's cheeks burned under the interrogation. She felt incredibly guilty and embarrassed, exactly like a teenager who had just been caught sneaking around by a strict parent. "Yoli, I... It's not that I was trying to hide it from you. It's just that I only recently agreed to get back together with him. Things are still pretty new, so I figured I would wait a little while before telling you..." Who could have predicted a near-death experience would expose her secret so spectacularly? "You're not actually mad at me, are you?" Lizetta asked tentatively. Yolanda scoffed. "Even if I were mad, would you break up with him? You should be more worried about what your grandfather is going to say when he finds out." Even though she couldn't stand Remington and hated seeing her best friend go back to her ex, it was ultimately Lizetta's own life and heart. If Lizetta chose to go back, Remington must have given her a reason worth returning for. As an outsider, Yolanda had no right to dictate her choices. She only hoped that this time, Remington had truly figured himself out, recognized his own heart, and would never let Lizetta down again. What else could she possibly say? "You're the best, Yoli." Lizetta leaned over and affectionately rubbed her forehead against Yolanda's shoulder. Yolanda patted her shoulder gently. "Oh, stop it. Seriously, save the cute act for your darling boyfriend." Lizetta hadn't expected her to accept the news so easily. She had braced herself for aggressive opposition. Looking at her friend in surprise, she asked, "How are you being so calm about this? You're already teasing us?" Yolanda pursed her lips, looking down at Lizetta's shocked expression. "I'm only letting it slide because Remington actually proved his worth the past couple of days. You were unconscious, so you didn't get to see it, but he practically flipped Zion City upside down. They completely locked down all the roads to the eastern suburbs. He called in SWAT teams, deployed helicopters, and had a whole fleet of ambulances racing to the scene like maniacs. I suppose he really does care about you."
