By the time Martin West called, Liz and Remington had finished breakfast.
Remington let his phone buzz away on the table, making no move to answer it.
Liz glanced at the screen, then looked up at him.
"Martin is calling for Ron, isn't he? Are we still sending him back? Have you found a suitable nanny yet?"
No matter how adorable Ron was or how much Liz adored him,
it didn't change the absolute fact that he was Evelina's son, a child of the West family.
He would eventually have to go back. But just the thought of sending him into the viper's nest that was the West family made Liz's heart clench with deep, abiding anxiety.
Remington reached across the table and squeezed her hand gently.
"I've found a highly reliable nanny. She'll be here shortly. Once you meet her and approve, I'll have her accompany Ron when he returns."
Liz was stunned by his thoroughness.
Letting her personally vet the nanny before sending her into the West household would ease her worries immensely.
She just stared at him quietly, unable to find the words.
Just then, Martin called again.
Remington had been about to pick it up, but under her intense gaze, he simply declined the call, leaning forward to focus entirely on her.
"What is it?"
In his expression, in the depths of his eyes, she saw his absolute, unwavering devotion.
