Noelle felt a little awkward, but this time, she did not get up immediately as she would have before. Instead, she stayed seated just as Laurence had asked.
Although she felt conflicted, she loved Laurence. As long as he did not look down on her and remained determined to make her his wife, she was willing to marry him. If they became husband and wife, they would truly be equals. Neither of them would be above the other.
Jane and the others had always reassured her, telling her that they had never considered her a servant, only family. As for Laurence, he loved her wholeheartedly.
One day, she would be Laurence's wife and the missus of the Longbottom family. She could not keep feeling inferior. She needed to be confident, generous, and unafraid of anyone.
Her problem was that she still felt a little unworthy of Laurence. She would need some time to overcome that insecurity.
The bodyguards stood behind them.
When Tony and the others heard Laurence's words to Noelle, their expressions shifted slightly, but their smiles remained plastered.
Only Roxy's face darkened. She stared at Noelle with jealousy and resentment.
Strictly speaking, she and Laurence were relatives, so marriage between them would have been inappropriate. Besides, she had never truly been in love with him. In the past, Tony and Manny asked her to pretend to pursue Laurence. Their real aim had been to get close to him and expose his true identity.
However, seeing how well Laurence treated Noelle still made Roxy intensely jealous.
She had been pampered since childhood. No one in Havenmill dared to show her the slightest disrespect. Even though her father was just the acting head, he still had the highest authority in the family before the rightful head returned.
She had been able to do whatever she wanted in Havenmill. She had status, wealth, and looks too. Countless people liked her and pursued her, but she had never thought any of them were good enough.
As the daughter of the acting family head, she believed she would marry into another prominent family and become their matriarch. Ordinary rich young men simply did not meet her standards.
However, the heads of the truly powerful families had no interest in her. She knew they looked down on her because her father was not the rightful head. Her father's generation had worked so hard to build the family's power, only for it to end up in someone else's hands.
