Dylan pushed open the door to his office and invited Fox. The crowd watched as the lady in red strutted in and their boss maintained a gentlemanly smiling face with a good temper the whole while.
Dylan was considered one of the better-tempered Yorks, though he would still be stern at work, leaving the impression on his employees that he was a serious man. Everyone would privately agree that he was similar to Zachary.
Although they had never seen Zachary in the flesh, they had heard he was a cold and emotionless person. Remembering that Dylan said the woman in red was here to collect a debt, they thought it was reasonable. Even their boss had to greet his debtor with a smile.
They wondered how much he owed her. Once the door to his office closed, the rest filed into the elevator.
“There aren’t any problems with our company, right?” Ford asked the receptionist, Rita. He was only in charge of security and thought she would have a better idea of the company’s internal situation.
Rita asked in return, “What sort of problems would we have? Everyone’s working as usual. Sometimes, we even need to work overtime on weekends. That means our business is doing well. Our wages, bonuses, and benefits are being paid on time. Even our tea time snacks are still being provided with no reduction. We’re still getting the same stuff, so everything’s normal.”
Rita felt there was no worry of losing her job since her wages were still being paid and her benefits maintained.
“Mr. York said the lady was here to collect a debt, which made me think something’s gone wrong with the company. Why else would he be owing debts?”
Rita was silent for a moment before she conceded. “You do have a point, but everything’s running as usual.”
“Mr. York can’t possibly run away, can he? The Yorks are supporting him and they’re the richest family in all of Wiltspoon. He’s not just in charge of us, but also some other projects and subsidiaries for York Corporation.
“Rationally speaking, he’ll never be short of money. If something does go wrong, he still has enough for our wages. York Corporation is backing him up, you know. Ford, you don’t have to worry about that. As long as we do our jobs as usual, we’ll get what we’re entitled to.”
“I want your blood!” Fox looked hateful. She walked over to the sofa and sat down, leaning back as she glared at Dylan.
She looked particularly beautiful to him even when she was angry. He poured her a glass of water instead of caffeinated drinks because he was worried it would affect her sleep quality regardless of whether or not she was planning to nap. If afternoon naps were in her routine, and she was kept awake by the caffeine, she would be even angrier at him.
“That can be done. I’ll get a knife and you can do it yourself. I probably won’t die if you just take a cup’s worth. At most, I’ll be a little pale from the blood loss and you can make it up to me by making some chicken soup for me.”
Fox replied angrily, “I’ll bleed you dry and throw you deep into the woods to feed the wild beasts.”
Dylan laughed. “You’re all bark and no bite. You don’t really mean that, I know.”
