“No. The baby is fine.”
Serenity’s in-laws were being overprotective of her. It also meant that they were concerned about her and the baby.
“That’s good. I’m just scared of hearing that something has happened to you.”
Tania was relieved. She said, “I have a friend whose daughter-in-law is pregnant too. She was five months along, but the baby died in the womb the day before yesterday. She was utterly devastated. The baby boy had been developing well. They had no idea why he died.
“Enough with that. Our Seren and her baby are healthy and fine.”
Tania was so worried because she had heard about the story of her friend’s daughter-in-law.
“The baby died in the womb at five months?”
Tania held Serenity’s hand. They walked into the house together.
Zachary was left behind.
He was used to his parents revolving around Serenity whenever they returned to the manor. Even the baby in Serenity’s womb was more important to them than he was.
‘Mom and Dad couldn’t have become grandparents this quickly without me. They’ve been neglecting me ever since they got a daughter-in-law. How unfair is that?’
“Where’s Nana, Sam? Please find her. I have something to tell her.”
Sam replied with a smile, “She’s at the foot of the hill. She just can’t sit still at home. I’ll look for her now and tell her to come back.”
After speaking, he hopped into a nearby car and drove away.
Tania’s circle comprised wives of wealthy families, which usually had a business to be passed down to future generations.
Serenity said, “Many successors are daughters nowadays. It doesn’t necessarily have to be a son. Whether a son or a daughter, they’re all their parents’ children. The more capable and suitable child should be made the successor. Why do they have to stick to one gender as the heir?”
She asked Tania, “If I have a daughter, will you let her be the successor if she’s more capable than my son?”
“Of course. If you give me a granddaughter, I can even pluck the stars or moon from the sky for her to play with, let alone making her the successor. She can inherit the position as long as she’s capable.”
After choosing a stance, she said, “But if I do get a granddaughter, Seren, I don’t really want her to be the successor. It’s too tiring.”
If Tania had a granddaughter, she wanted her to live like a princess and be free of worries.
She wanted her granddaughter to avoid taking on the difficult and tiring responsibility of an heir.
