Elisa laughed and said, “Alice, please don’t laugh at me. I’m just so nervous. I bet Clive is panicking right now.”
“Okay, I’ll stop laughing at you. Though laughing lessens the pain.”
Elisa said, “Then go ahead and laugh! If your stomach doesn’t hurt from laughing, you should laugh more. I really don’t mind since I’m quite thick-skinned.”
Alice hugged her belly and laughed, but then she soon frowned and said, “Now it hurts. The pain is getting more intense.”
Hearing this, Audrey immediately instructed her daughter, “Bring Alice to the hospital now!”
Most women would experience contractions for at least a day or two before giving birth for the first time. Some women would even have to endure the pain for three days. However, some women only had contractions for a few hours before delivery.
Maybe Alice would not have to struggle for long.
Thus, the Stones rushed Alice to the hospital.
On the way to the hospital, Alice called Clive. When he answered the phone, she said, “Clive, my stomach hurts, so I think I’m going into labor. Dad, Mom, and Elisa are sending me to the hospital now. If you have time, please meet us at the hospital.”
“You’re going into labor?! I thought we still had two weeks before the due date. Why are you giving birth now?
“Of course, I have time for my pregnant wife! Which hospital are you going to? I’ll be there right away! Don’t be scared. I’ll see you soon!”
When Clive heard that his wife was about to give birth, he put aside his work, stood up, and walked around the desk to leave. However, he went in the wrong direction and walked into the lounge instead.
A senior manager who came to report to him looked at his boss, who was walking to the lounge, in astonishment.
The senior manager thought to himself, ‘Isn’t Mr. Stone heading out?
‘His wife is about to give birth, and I clearly heard him saying that he was heading to the hospital. Why was he walking into the lounge?’
The manager thought Clive was going to grab something from the lounge.
Soon, Clive walked out, still talking on the phone. He did not grab anything else.
Alice hung up because the pain was getting more intense and unbearable.
“Alice, are you okay?” Elisa, who was sitting next to Alice, saw her uncomfortable expression and asked with concern.
“It’s getting more painful.”
Alice frowned and added, “I also want to go to the bathroom.”
Audrey said, “Hang on a little longer. We’re almost at the hospital. When the pain gets worse and you feel like relieving yourself, it means you’re about to give birth. This baby has tormented you for nine and a half months. I guess he doesn’t want to have such an arduous delivery.”
Judging from her experience, Audrey knew that her daughter-in-law would probably get examined and sent to the delivery room immediately once they arrived at the hospital.
Audrey was nervous and hopeful to see her grandchild.
Alice sobbed.
